Hello, I was diagnosed with IBS recently and am worried about treatment options and the FAA. The doctor wants to put me on a low dose of Paxil which as far as I can tell would not be kosher with the FAA. Do you have any advice? Thanks. |

Just make sure your family doctor is completely separate from your AME

Do not take Paxil. It will disqualify you. Additionally, if you falsify the report and get caught, the consequences are 5 years and/or $250,000 plus loss of your license and medical certificate. Try some counseling so you can learn to deal with stress. Maybe a little self-relaxation training too. |

So is IBS mostly a stress related thing then? I was wondering why he wanted to do Paxil. Also is this something I need to put on my next medical form? Does it fit into an anxiety disorder (18m) then or just an intestinial problem (18i)? Last edited by rthompsonjr; August 7th, 2007 at 22:49. |

It fits into the GI section (18i). It is mostly stress related. Many people use Paxil and related drugs but they also don't understand the FAA regs. |
