This may be too generic for an accurate answer, but... When I took my eye test - I used the machine that had me look through it at a card which is inserted into the machine (instead of standing back and looking at a chart on the wall.) I was able to read the smallest line, although it was pretty tough. My question is: What is that line as far as vision rating? And generally speaking, how many lines above it can you read to still have 20/20 vision (or is the small line the 20/20 line?) Thanks for reading!

And more importantly, what are the letters on that fourth line? I can't make 'em out to save me!

It depends on the machine. There are several machines approved (Keystone Orthoscope; Bausch & Lomb Orthorator; AOC Site-Screener; Titmus Vision Tester; Keystone Telebinocular; OPTEC 2000 Vision Tester.). It also depends on whether or not you are looking at near or distant vision - the cards vary for these. Usually the bottom line is 20/10 or 20/15. |

Sweet! I guess I have either 20/10 or 20/15. I just had to do this a few months ago when I got my 1st class med.

That is not what I said. It depends on the machine. |

As long as that bottom line isn't 20/20, then I'm a happy guy! Thank you ![]() -Scott PS - Doug - isn't it KEBERT XELA?

It may be 20/20 - depends on the machine. For example, on the Keystone Telebinocular, the near vision bottom line is 20/20.

Yehaaw! 20/10. (I called to find out.) These 35 yr old eyes are still kickin' it. Now, if only my bicycle racer/army humper knees could claim the same. ![]() Thanks for the responses, Doc!

Here's a question pertinent to this thread: if there are no uncorrected near vision requirements anymore, why is it still tested? I can't see a damn thing on any of the charts, near or far, without glasses or contacts.

Also, which charts test near and distant vision? I've always gotten the "broken donuts" and the letters, but I don't know which tests what.
