Default 1st. Class Medical Question

I have a friend who is now just a recreational pilot. However when he had a 2nd. class exam done over 10 years ago the AME did a prostate check as part of the exam. He never reported any issues or symptoms before the exam and was just in his late 20's. I'm going to be having my first 1st. class medical soon, and I was very surprised to hear this. Is this something common that AME's do for the more advanced medicals? It seems more like a test your family doctor would perform than an AME. Thanks

It is not a required portion of the exam.
