| Ok, so I haven't been to the doctor about this yet (appointment in a few days), so I thought I'd ask here. I'm pretty sure I have a urinary tract infection. I was content to let it clear up on its own, but I read somewhere that it could get to your kidneys if left untreated and then that's bad news. How bad is "bad news?" I have no idea how I got this thing; is there any way to avoid it in the future? I'm beginning to develop a fear of anything that makes you pee. Thanks!

| Senior Member | Get it treated now. My wife has had a UTI that has taken years of low dose antibiotics to successfully treat. Years....

| Moderator | Guzzle cranberry juice like there's no tomorrow (there's an enzyme in cranberry juice that makes the bacteria unable to adhere, at least that's what I read somewhere) and go see the doc. The cranberry juice works! Several years ago I had my first UTI, and I was unable to get to a doc. I drank 2 containers of cranberry juice a day for 2 days, and it cleared up! But, as always, professional medical assistance is always recommended if it's available. The doc visit for this is quick & painless ![]()

| UTI's are very common in females. Even without treatment, most uncomplicated UTI's resolve on their own. Treatments with antibiotic like bactrim, cipro or rocephin will certainly decrease the duration of your symptoms. A drug call Pyridium can be used for pain control until the antibiotics kick in. Involvment of the kidneys is called pyelonephritis. These women come with high fevers (usually above 102) and in a lot of pain. Usually these patients are treated with IV antibiotics, pain meds and lots of fluids. "I'm beginning to develop a fear of anything that makes you pee." Actually you want to void as much as you can to help flush out the bacturia causing the UTI. Drink plenty of fluids especially fruit juice that acidify urine. | I hope by now you have been to get this treated. If it is not a recurrent problem, don't worry about it. |

| Thanks for all the replies. I love cranberry juice; I'll swig more of that. I did go to the doctor and got some cool antibiotics that will not only help my UTI situation, but will also help knock out the last of the bronchitis I seem to have. It might scare the passengers if all my body secretions were orange. Thanks again everybody!
