I know the BP changes even during the day, but I go to one doctor on Thurs and BP is 130/80, go to other doctor on Fri and its 160/100. I know stress can effect, but this seems like too big a swing. I asked if they used the larger cuff, and they said they did. Not sure what is going on with me. They did an EKG also, and nothing seen. Ideas?

Blood pressures can change that much. The correct way to take a blood pressure is to have the indivivdual sit comfortable for at least 10 minutes befor etaking the blood pressure. They must be in a comfortable chair with the blood pressure taken with the correct size cuff. A repeat blood pressure is taken 10 minutes later and a third 10 minutes after that. This is repeated on 3 different days and the numbers are averaged. That is the correct number for your blood pressure. So, if the nurse rushed you in a room, had you hop up on the table and slapped the cuff on, your pressure could be higher (or maybe the nurse is a hottie and your pressure rose). The important thing is to average the numbers from various times of the day to see where you trend. |
