Default Open heart surgery

I have a friend who had some sort of open heart surgery (not sure exactly why or to what extent it was). He wants to learn to fly and is concerned about being able to obtain a medical. Anything he should be concerned about or information he should supply to the AME?

Thanks Doc!

Default Re: Open heart surgery

He will have to supply information about the surgery to the FAA but I need to know if it was for coronary artery disease, a valve replacement or some other problem to be able to give you the proper information.

No matter what the surgery was for, at this point he will have to submit info to the FAA and they will make the decision. The AME will not be able to do it. He will have to allow 6 week after he submits the information before he has an answer, so he should not plan on going up to the solo point and expect to get a medical on Friday to solo on Saturday.

Let us know what the surgery was for and I will provide more info.
