When I was a teenager in 1991, I had spinal fusion surgery to correct my scoliosis. As a result, I have a couple of CD Rods permanently attached to my spine. I have no pain or problems as a result of the scoliosis/surgery, and I was able to obtain a first class medical with no problem at all. However, I want to know how this will affect my chances of getting hired by an airline? I know that the airlines require all potential new hires to undergo an extensive, all day medical exam, before they offer them the job. Right now flying is just a hobby for me, but I'm considering trying to make a career out of it. I want to make sure this isn't going to be a deal killer. Thanks! |

You will have to ask the guy who work in the industry. From a medical and FAA perspective, if you qualify for a CLass 1, you are fit to fly.

I am not sure what all day medical you are referring too. I am at my 3rd airline and have never had to take a "company" physical. All I was ever asked for is a drug test and copy of my 1st class medical. I don't for see you having any problems as long as there isnt' a SODA or restriction on your medical and you are able to perform all your job functions. Remember don't "volunteer" info. |

They don't even know if you have a SODA unless they specifically ask you. It is not on the medical certificate.

Thanks for the info guys. I don't think it will be an issue either. This site has the interview gouge for American Eagle, which is where I read about the extensive medical exam: http://www.willflyforfood.cc/Eagle.htm |
