I had my last Medical done 4+ years ago and I forgot how much it was. I'm 40 now so I need an EKG. Could anybody tell me what would be a "reasonable" price to pay? Thanks for the replies!

I would just suggest searching out for a local AME, and calling their office. Reasonable price for a 3rd class . . . I'd be willing to say 30-50 bucks. |

HA! I paid 90 for a 2nd class back home in VA. I knew they were overpriced, but the AME I went to was a pilot and customer of our FBO (richest guy at the airport and he got fuel discounts...figure that one ) and he was the closest one within 50 miles. Oh well.

Wow, I just paid $70 for a first class medical, although, I didn't have an EKG. I don't know if that makes the price go up. Methinks it probably would.

Just think of it this way - the price should be about what it costs to rent a 172 wet for an hour. If it is less than that, it is a bargain. The cost of flying is all relative and the price of medicals is no exception.

Got a 2nd class in the Kennedy medical center at JFK a few weeks ago while I was home visiting family (and doing some flying, of course). $90 across the board, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. I believe you added $20 to that if you need hardwiring This is my third medical there, and the price has remained the same over for quite some time. |

Prices sound about right but I bet the EKG is at least twice that.

Might be, it was off the top of my head about the EKG, but I am certain about the price of the standard physical.

Not really. Many insurance companies do not pay for employment related physical exams. The HMO's will pay for a health maintenance exam but if you think you have anything wrong and the AME does the exam he will have to report it to the FAA. I don't know any AME's doing class 1 exams and billing the insurance company. |
