Yesterday our new puppy came in the house with a HUGE tick on her lip, the thing was almost the size of a penny. It made me wonder if lymes disease would be something you could loose your medical for. If you caught it early enough and treated it would it still disqualify you even after being cured? If you don't catch it early enough an aviation medical is the least of your worries. But does the FAA have any rules about it, I don't want to be worried every time I go into the backcountry that one little bite could end my career.

I know a person who went insane from getting lyme, the kids parents sent him to military school because they thaught he was bad. Turns out he had lyme. If caught soon enough, it wont be a problem. As for your medical, I would say if treated, it wouldn't be a problem, It might be one of those "dont let your AME know", But I really don't know. Preventing ticks is the best thing you can do, check your body after a venture in the woods, places like your waiste and hair. Dont worry if you find a large tick on yourself, just put alcohal on the area it bit, after you take it out from the head. Check your cloths after there off to. Use sprays, but dont rely on them. tips from the guy in the PA whos county has the highest lyme disease record in the state
