| I had to get a quickie medical exam for a life insurance policy and the nurse came by my workplace during a gap in my schedule yesterday. I've never had bloodwork done before and I've never been a needle person. I got the blood sample drawn and I got bandaged up ok, but then about a minute or so later I was out cold! I woke up to the foul smelling ammonia capsule. It was sort of embarassing because it happed at work with people around who saw it happen. I had to cancel my 1pm flight and I felt bad because my student had already driven out. I guess I have something else to look forward to in the airline interview process . But at least I didn't wake up with anything obscene drawn on my forehead with a permanent marker!Mike |

| Weak! Ah, Just kidding. I've been abundantly poked, prodded, and stuck throughout my adult life. It seems like it never gets any better for those that truly hate needles.Last edited by AP2B; February 15th, 2006 at 14:03. |

| One of those shots you get before you are allowed to go to college knocked me on my butt. I don't remember what it was but I made the mistake and got it from a military hospital. I just remember getting the shot and then this little 5 foot tall nurse was trying to hold me up in the corner of the room. She wasn't having too much success either. Another time I had to get a tetnas<sp?> shot after a dog bite. One whole side of my body went numb and I couldnt feel it for about an hour. We stopped for lunch at some fast food place after that and I spilled a drink all over myself. No more shots for me! |

| Old Skool | I have gotten used to the needles, but stitches is another story. I have had IVs and many shots and never passed out. But when I got my 200 stitches taken out, I passed out. They say my face turned green. ![]()

| I've never had a needle problem except that I can't watch them stick it in... once the blood is squirting out I can watch that. It's just the act of getting punctured, I think it's some self-defense mechanism, I want to fight it. |

| Big Chief's Woman | your not alone buddy!! I used to get "weak in the knees" when it came to taking blood... after a while, it becomes second nature though which i'm pretty thankful for!! next time, ask them for a glass of OJ and start sipping the OJ right after she takes the needle out... that way, your mind is occupied on something else and it'll make it easier to get up and walk away!! it took me a few times before i could stop using OJ as an excuse to not get all fuzzy headed! I bet you just stood up to fast!! |

| I think part of the reason was because I had not eaten in over 12 hours and I woke up for a 0630 flight that morning. I was in a chair the whole time, so luckily I didn't fall over. The nurse dude wanted me to drink some OJ or something quick to restore my electrolyte levels or something like that. I've gotten shots before without much trouble, but I hate needles. Flu shots are out of the question. Never had one. I guess donating blood or plasma is pretty low on my list as well. Quote:

, that was just one of the two. I think I am now up well over 700. It really sucks, especially the one under the skin that they pull on one end and you can feel it working its way through underneath the skin . I also have some from my two mouth surgeries .

Ahhh, the silver bullet (penicillin) is a good one. You dont see it get injected, goes in your gluteus maximus, but you feel it. It is a large cold shot they give you to hold while you are in line to have it administered. You try to get it nice and warm so it doesn't "bother" you. Then once you have the injection, it is best to walk around or rock on your cheeks to get the medicine into the muscle tissue. If you don't, the next morning it will feel like someone kicked you in the hind quarters. Good times. | |
