I heard that even after getting 1st class medical most airlines require that their pilots pass another set of medical screening set by the airlines..which is VERY hard to pass. I am particularly worried regarding medical standards for the eye/eye sight. I have pretty bad eye sight. I was relieved to read that I would be able to obtain 1st class medical as long as it can be corrected. I heard that airlines also care about pressure of the eye ball. is this true? I was also told that people with bad eye sight naturally have high pressure eye balls. This would mean that I could never get hired by the major airlines. Those of you who fly the "heavies"...can you tell me anything about eye sight and getting hired to fly the heavies?? |

There are a few airlines out there that are/were known for having secondary medicals (eagle), but beyond a drug test I haven't had to do anything other then a first class where I am.

Skyway didn't have a medical and Delta's was more or less a class one with an ungodly amount of blood testing. But at no point did anyone attempt to determine the PSI of my eyeball.

If you go to the eye doctor regularly, (once a year)..they usually do a glaucoma (eyeball pressure) test....as long as they dont' find anything, you'll be OK......they're just looking for signs of glaucoma when they shoot that air into your eyeball.........www.glaucoma.org has all the information you ever wanted to know about eyeball PSI
