Amblyopia and 1st class medical

I have a question for you people that have to take 1st class medicals regularly.
I have amblyopia in my left eye, I'm almost 20/20, but closer to 20/25 ( right eye no problem, 20/10 ). This pretty much means that I can barely guess the signs in the 20/20 line with my left eye. You all know that amblyopia it's not really correctable, except in the early childhood.
My question is, when you take your eye examination, does the doctor check each eye separately, ( one closed ) or does he/she just made you read the signs on the wall with both eyes open?
I currently have a 3rd class medical, if I try to pass a 1st and failed, would this affect my 3rd class privileges?

I have the same thing.. drives me CRAZY! only it's my right eye that doesn't do any work! I have 20/20 in my left eye and 20/40 or worse (i think) in my right.. i use glasses to bring my right eye up to 20/20 altho it still doesn't typically want to operate *with* my left eye.

do you have a pair of glasses you wear to make your left eye perform like your right eye?

if not, i'd suggest just to be on the safe side, go to the eyedoctor first and get a pair of perscription eyeglasses that will bring your left eye up to right eye standards! then the eye doc can check you with your glasses on.
