Hey guys, I think the answer to this question is NO, but I'll ask it anyway... I just found out after getting a CT, that I have a retained kidney stone in the upper collection system of one of my kidneys. The stone is approximately 2mm in size, and there is nothing my Dr. can do about it (as far as removing it). The stone has not caused any problems thus far. I talked to an AME to get his opinion, and he that said that although "This may cause some additional paperwork, however we do not feel this will be medically disqualifying". I had a kidney stone 20 years ago, and one 5 years ago - both passed. Any additional opinions out there? |

I have one that is not in the collection system and I have to get a special issuance every year (no matter what class). I have to get x-ray'd and my Dr has to prepare a letter stating that there has been no growth or movement. I sent all this to my Regional FAA and follow up after about 2 weeks. Like you, my Dr said that it will never bother me because it will never pass. He says it's physically impossible. The FAA see's in black and white to a point. A stone is a stone and it is disqualifying. You should get the special issuance providing your Dr gives the correct info in his report. Look it up on Virtual AME and follow the procedure to the letter. Expect 1-2 months to get the medical. You will have to do this every year so prepare in advance. I send them the report 2 months before my year is due. |
