Default MS disqualifying?

I have a buddy back in Sandy Eggo whom I would really love to see get his PPL, but he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis a couple years ago and before I stick my stinky dog in my mouth encouraging him to pursue it, I wanna make sure MS isn't a medically disqualifying condition. Anybody know offhand? Where might this be in the FARs?

6. What medical conditions does the FAA consider disqualifying?
The following conditions are listed in the regulations as disqualifying medical conditions; however, in many cases when the condition is adequately controlled, the FAA will issue medical certification contingent on periodic reports.

Diabetes mellitus requiring hypoglycemic medications
Angina pectoris
Coronary heart disease that has been treated or, if untreated, that has been symptomatic or clinically significant
Myocardial infarction
Cardiac valve replacement
Permanent cardiac pacemaker
Heart replacement
Psychosis
Bipolar disease
Personality disorder that is severe enough to have repeatedly manifested itself by overt acts
Substance dependence
Substance abuse
Epilepsy
Disturbance of consciousness without satisfactory explanation of cause
Transient loss of control of nervous system function(s) without satisfactory explanation of cause.
Other conditions not specifically listed in the regulations are also disqualifying. For further information refer to the Guide for Aviation Medical Examiners at

Further Info for AME's can be found here

Dug a little further and found this:

Landry-Guillain-Barre Syndrome;
Myasthenia Gravis; or
Multiple Sclerosis All Submit all pertinent medical records, current neurologic report, to comment on involvement and persisting deficit, period of stability without symptoms, name and dosage of medication(s) and side effects Requires FAA Decision

[/ QUOTE ]

Does not appear to be an automatic disqualifier.

Awesome. Thanks for the investigative work, I wouldn't have had the first clue where to look.

May not be automatically disqualifying, but I'd be very surprised to see someone with MS get a medical. My mom has it and it does some pretty trippy things to your nervous system. Maybe a third class if it has not progressed much, but I really doubt anything higher than that.

You should call the AOPA. I believe they have AME's that take questions all day.
