Default What would you do?

I recently received my score and failed to score WQ. I turn 26 this month and I am concerned I will not have enough time to land this job. At this point I am thinking about enrolling into the local CTI program.

Do I enroll into the local CTI program and reapply in 2 years or take the chance that PUBNAT will still be around in November of 2010?

So if you were in my position what would you do?

Tim, apply to CTI school and each Pubnat that comes out while you're still in CTI school.

Thats true, I could always do both! Thank you

Does anyone know if it is possible to complete CTI program in under 2 years? For instance, the program requires 45 hours. That is essentially 15 hours or 5 classes a semester. Thoughts?

If you have the money for CTI school, I would definitely suggest enrolling in that, and continue to apply to PUBNATs until you graduate.

Whether you can finish within two years depends on how much you're willing to devote to this. You can take 21 classes a semester if you don't work and are totally dedicated to studying.

if you're 26 - I'd got to CTI if you can afford it. I think there are seperate announcements for CTI grads (correct me if I am wrong). So you shoulld be able to apply to both. However I would recommend getting a physical to make you can pass it before spending the cash.

No Kidding, my biggest fear at this point is wasting the cash on something that could potentially bust. When you say physical are you referring to blood pressure etc?

Yes - eyes, hearing, ekg, blood pressure, etc. - I would post something in the ask a flight surgeon section - he/she should be able to tell you what to get checked out

An ATC medical is equivalent to a second class - if you can hold that, you can hold an ATC medical. I'd talk to an AME.

What exactly do you mean when you say ATC medical is the equivalent to a second class?

There are three classes of medical certificate for pilots: First Class, Second Class, and Third Class. First Class allows you to exercise the privileges of an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP), Second Class allows you to exercise Commercial Pilot privileges, and a Third Class allows you to exercise Private Pilot privileges. First is more stringent than Second, which is more stringent than Third. An ATC medical is equivalent to a Second Class with some minor differences. Generally, an average healthy person should be able to obtain a First Class medical with no problems. Unless you have uncorrectable vision (must be corrected to 20/20), a history of mental illness, depression or antidepressants, heart disease, or a severe speech impediment, then you should be fine.

Depending on your past, you can complete a CTI program in even as little as a year. With my degree in Aerospace Engineering, as well as a Private Pilot's License and Instrument Rating, they told me I needed 32 credits, which would be full time for a year. It all depends on your individual circumstances.

When my PUBNAT came out, I decided to cancel CTI school, because I figured I have just as much chance getting picked up OTS. Perhaps I should have done both too, considering the relatively short amount of time it would take me to complete the program. AND I'd have a second bachelor's degree.

Hm.....

CTI grads have a much better chance of making it than OTS. Completing CTI school would have made you a lot more competitive.

I'm only 23 thankfully. We'll see how this PUBNAT8 goes and maybe I'll enroll fall of next year. I may take a couple classes this spring just for fun, like a basic ATC fundamentals class and an IFR refresher class.
