I'm considering attending ATP to get my Multi add on which is running at $1995 and takes 4 days. I'm considering this because my local FBO only has one twin which is a Piper Seneca which runs $267 an hr plus $46 hr for an instructor. I believe doing it at my FBO will be far more expensive based on the prices I just mentioned and will take longer due to availablilty of the one twin aircraft they have and availablilty of an instructor to do get it done quickly. If anyone has any feedback on the ATP Multi add on program as to whether it's a good program and worth the price, it would be appreciated.

Yes I think doing the 4 day Multi Program is a good idea if the FBO you're referring to is more expensive. The multi training at ATP, at least for me, was top notch. It all depends on what instructor you work with. The seminole simulator helps a lot too. If you do decide to get the rating through ATP, make sure you hit and study the supplement they send you HARD! |

What do you expect to get out of it? No one will let you rent a twin with less than 10 hours in type, much less 10 hours total multi engine time. You need 15 hours of multi-engine time to get your MEI, if you want to that. How many hours are included? I wouldn't think it is more than 5 hours, which is $400/hour. Quote:

im actually considering doing the 10 hr program which is an extra $800, which still works out to be cheaper for the same amount of hours out of my local FBO. Thanks for evryone's feedback so far.

| I'd recommend paying the extra $800 and getting 10 hours. Which locations are you looking at?

I'm looking at either Trenton, NJ or Richmond, VA locations which are the closest to my home.

Know quite a few people who went to TTN for the 10 hour and were successful. Seems alot of people in NJ have the same problem with FBO's being expensive for twins

I did mine in Richmond.. Was top notch, excellent training.. They do things very efficiently when it comes to the Multi rating.. Like others said, just make sure you have the seminole supplement down pat and you will do fine...

Not a big fan of ATP. But Richmond is a good place to do it. Examiners are fair, and the two CFI's remaining there are pretty good. I know both of them. See ATP, I can say something nice. Seminole is pretty easy to fly, and is forgiving. Vmc demo is a null event. One of the examiners put her foot behind the pedal to leave some rudder just in case the wing starts to flip, but it wont. TTN is an alright place, but I think you'd be happier with Richmond, facilities are nicer, the airport is way cooler.

I am also considering going to an ATP location between semesters (probably december '09) to get the commercial-multi add-on taken care of. Is that the 10 hour program or does the commercial take more time than that? |

If you plan on earning an MEI certificate, wouldn't getting rated asap at the lowest possible cost behoove you? Sure, not everyone is gonna go for an MEI, but I'm just saying. I'll take the "crash or pass" with the CMEL. + i'm poor in a way.

Just to make the distinction, I'm strictly referring to adding the CMEL certificate. Going through the FBO, I would bet you would get that 15 PIC just working on the MEI, then whatever follow on (instructing / multi) experience before you would be assigned some multi students. Anyway, ATP seems like they know how to churn out multi engine pilots. Sounds like enough reason to head over to EYE and check it out.
