Default Finally signed up!

well after waiting another couple of months, I've finally decided that I have to make a move, lest my flight training stagger on as it has...

I'm scheduled for my interview on tuesday at Manasses, hoping to start anywhere (I have really no preference) on May 31st. I hope there's still room either at the Phoenix or Sacramento locations.

Hopefully, I'll be a CFI by August! The prospect of being done in 4 months is amazing!!!

Thanks for your help guys, I think I made the right choice, even though everyone goes up in arms here in the NE when I squawk about leaving

Just FYI, if you didn't know... THe KHEF location for ATP is inside the main terminal building. It took me for ever to find it and the peopel over at Dullas Aviation on the other side of the field had NO idea where it was. Good luck with you interview. I interviewed there last weekend. I think there are only two instructors there, Royce and Tony. I talked with Royce and didn't have any problems during the interview. Assuming everything goes well I guess I'll be seeing you around the ATP system over the summer.

thanks duck...

I still have no idea where to go, all I really care about is getting the ratings. I'm trying to figure out now if Sacramento is the place for me, but I'ver never been to Cali in my life!

I was sort of in the same boat (er... plane) as you. I'm from just up I84/I91 from you in Amherst origonally so there was no way I was going to be able to be near "home". I'm not really sure why I decided on FL in the end. Just sort of worked out that way. Can't tell you much about Sacramento. I've been there for all of 4 hours once. But hey, you never know who you might here on the tower frequency there.

"I vant a clearance to de practice area... Then I'll be back."

So there ya go.

Seems like I remember reading that you got your instrument rating recently. Does that mean you're going to come in, get the PP-AMEL, and then move straight on to prepping for the XC's?

I'm not too sure what they're gonna heva me do. I was told that I don't have to take the instrument checkride over, but what about the MEL-IR? Don't I have to do engine out approaches?

I'll ask this at the interview, but as far as I know, I start right in with the PPL-MEL and go for the XC stuff from there.

I'm also wondering if I do the Manassas location, will there be a big problem in training under a TFR?

Your first checkride will be a Multi-IFR.

In Dallas, and I assume that it's done the same everywhere, it's scheduled on the same timeline as if you were just doing the multi private w/o the instrument. Then you'll just build/burn time with your instructor until your partner takes the instrument checkride. At that point, you'll both go on cross country together.

From what I understand Manassas is under the TFR but on the very edge of it so getting in and out isn't that difficult. Especially if you are going to be filing IFR anyways. I know that they do a lot of their approaches at other airports that are outside the TFR so it isn't an issue.

Your Multi-Pvt will be the same as your partners except you'll be required to do an approach. Have you considered KRAL?There are many benefits to this location, such as mountains, IMC, tower enroute, busy airspace(you'll get really good on the radios), endless amount of approaches to choose from and all the instructors there are awsome. No matter which west coast location you pick, you'll most likely spend plenty O' time at all of them.

I'd be more worried about the retard ground controller at HEF. Sheesh, if theres more than one airplane trying to taxi around, he loses the entire "flick".

Some examples from my last encounter there:

"Cleared across 16L, hold short of 34R" (Uhhh, yeah...how about we just hold short until you figure out what you're doing).

"Citation 1234, give way to the King Air entering the ramp and taxi to blah blah blah" (The King Air can't enter the ramp, cause you just told the Citation to hold in the way.)

"King Air 1234, cleared to ABC via blah blah blah, climb to 3, expect 200 in 10, departure 123.45, squawk 4321....oh, and by the way, here's the rest of your routing that I didn't give you 10 seconds ago...complete with 3 crossing restrictions." (Is it too much to ask to get the clearance in order, and with the goofy intersections spelled instead of mumbled?)

Anyone else had the pleasure of dealing with him? Do they train controllers at HEF?
