My oral interview with Jim today went outstanding, and he offered me a spot in their program. I'll be starting out in Phoenix on August 2nd and can't wait to take on the new challenge.Hey Cactus Cutter-PM me so we can get together before the class start date-I'll be driving cross-country from CT here to get there, so I'm going to check in a couple of days early and get settled. If anyone else here is starting on Aug. 2nd, let me know. Jim said that I got the last spot out there for that date, but I forgot to ask him how many that will be. They have three instructors out there right now, the one I interviewed with just came over from JAX to replace one that got hired by Chataqua. Anyway, the next couple months will be to get the writtens done and figure exactly how to gracefully retire from my job as a telecommunications tech. ![]() Oh yeah, he also let me lock in @ the old price, even though its a couple days past their deadline to start of July 31st. |

[/ QUOTE ] Hey bap, yeah I interviewed with Dan-he was really cool about everything. He said he needed a change from FL, that's why he headed out to the southwest. Same reason I'm headed out there-sick of the East coast. I've traveled all over the country, and I really like most of those states like NM, WY, MT as well as AZ-- but I'd really like to get back up to Alaska eventually, at least for the summers. |

This really ticks me off. I too am startng Aug. 2nd and had my deposit in about 3 weeks ago and since I am starting after July they made me pay the increased price. Its good to here that you got the old price, but the way I see it if you got the old price so should I. This really disappoints me. A great way to start ATP, even before I get there. |

Actually, one of my fraternity brothers and really good friends started out at ATP-PHX. He used to work cargo here in PHX and decided he wanted to jump ship from the managerial side and get into aviation so I suggested ATP because they offered an accelerated program for motivated students and I heard good things about it. Now he's a Mesa CRJ captain and still very happy and extremely positive about his experience with ATP. I think you're making a fantastic choice. |

I'm leaving a good paying job to do this like many of you have, but the way I look at it-I don't want to be on my deathbed wishing that if I had just had the cajones, I would have been a pilot. We're only here for a set amount of time, might as well do what you really want to do-life is too short to be miserable. ![]() Hey Lakunas, why don't you just give Jim a call and ask him to honor the old price-it's only 2 days after July 31st. What's the worst that can happen, he'll say no? Good luck. |

I had called Jim and asked why I couldn't get the old price even though I am putting down my deposit 4 months in advance, earlier this month. He told me that this is thier new pricing plan and that I would have to choose a start date prior to August 2nd for them to honor it. I don't mind the price incease (well I do) as long as its straight across the board, none of this playing favorites. I guess I'll just give him another call and ask for an explanation. |

[ QUOTE ] I guess I'll just give him another call and ask for an explanation. [/ QUOTE ] Just be carful how you present the question, and I'm not saying you won't be, but it could come across in a negative way. Keep in mind that these people are most likely going to play a very important role in you getting your first job(s). If they start off not liking you it could make life difficult down the road. I'm not saying don't ask why. I think it is a valid concern you have. The way I read the website was that as long as a DEPOSIT was recieved before June 1st you were all set with the old price. Good luck getting it straightned out. Ethan |

[/ QUOTE ] Hey junior, Jim asked what airport I flew out of and then asked me to name the airspace that it is in, as well as what the VFR requirements to fly in that airspace. After that, he basically quizzed me on P-Factor and torque. Oh yeah, also be on the ball for Vso and where it can be found on the airspeed indicator, Vfe, Vx, and Vy. Good Luck! |

I was just all pumped up about it and wanted to let everyone know. |

I haven't talked to Jim yet, in the middle of finals week and just haven't had time, nor wanted to deal with it right now. I am going to have to be careful how I go about this, especially since I do plan on being an instructor for them. This is going to be tricky, but I could really use the savings as I am sure all of us could. I just want to start flying already. Well, off to Happy Hour, eerr I mean the library mom. |

Hope everything goes well for you. I was just trying to say that I hope you don't use-"that guy going to Phoenix who you gave the old price to". Something like that and I think he would know its me who spilled the beans. Although, he actually never came out and said not to tell anyone. ![]() Oh by the way, are you going to be out in Phoenix for the ACPP on Aug 2nd? |

I still have two weeks and 3 flying days as an FO remaining before I start the humbling experience. ATP is a great choice and you'll love it. I interviewed in PHX on 12/8/98 and was hired by Mesa on 12/20/99. Remember to ENJOY the training process; this is the fun part of aviation. Bring a camera, too. You'll enjoy looking back in a few years. And, as soon as Doug tells me how to do it, I'll throw in a few of my pics from the ATP days. |

It's probably going to feel like college--rooming with a bunch of guys in dorm-style, except without alot of the extracurricular activities. ![]() By the way, can anyone suggest a good digital camera? Before I go-definitely want to pick one up. Like you said, I'll enjoy looking back on those pictures in the future, that's probably when I'll appreciate them more. As far as posting pictures, I could use a little help in that category too! Thanks for the info. |

A good one? Canon Digital Rebel and a long lens can be had for around $1500. If you want to go cheaper and just get a point and shoot kind thing that is a bit easier to work with. You will not beat the Olympus C770 which is just now coming out and is priced around $500. They also have cheaper versions of it called the 760, 750, and 740 which would all get the job done im sure! The key is zoom and they all have 10x optical. Good luck! |

Can you get a decent digital camera for under $200, my old camera got sand in it, and well... doesn't work now. I don't need anything fancy or all kinds of special features or anything like that, cause I probally couldn't figure it all out anyway. ![]() All I need is a point and click with a zoom and a flash, that will give me a decent picture. |

I am sure you can, but I have never really looked in that market before. I think you can get a 3MP/3-4X optical zoom for around $200-$300. Your best bet is to visit best buy or circuit city and talk to someone there. I think Nikon makes a good one in that range called the 2100? Dont quote me on that though. Here is the best tip, if any camera sales person starts talking about "Digital Zoom" in any manner other than saying it is worthless, then you know he either is trying to rip you off, or knows nothing about digital cameras. Good luck! |
