Default Starting 60 day Apr 7th RIC, Any nfo on 172 wreck from RIC?

Hey all. Im sitting here in a half packed office wondering who my other classmates may be. I am attending RIC for the 60day starting April 7th. I am going to finish my PPL there and then jump into the 90 day program on June 9th. Anybody signed up for any of those session groups?

I think I am one of the fortunate married students who has a loving wife who is coming to virginia with me, leaving michigan's economy far behind. She is planning on being a traveling OT out of petersburg. Its actually really cool because she is getting a free apartment(just say no to the dorms). So one lucky student is gonna get a room all by themselves, unless I need a break from my wife. lols.

Everything I own is going into storage, whether thats a blessing or a curse, it really is going to free me up down the road for any CFI work for ATP, or any gig I may pick up out of training. I can move and go anywhere.

Also, does anybody have any information regarding the wrecked 172 from RIC. A little bird sent me a email informing me a student came in for a landing and botched it from RIC. From my understanding it was more than just a flat landing, but caused the front nose gear to fail/collapse and a prop strike on their 1st solo flight. So if you got info, I would like to know more.

I figure from that incident we may have a little more hand holding for us PPL guys. Either way it doesnt phase me, stuff happen. Even though I got 15 hrs in my log already, and have already solo'd, it could happen to any of us. I feel bad for the bugger, but I can only hope he is allowed to continue his training. Anyhoo. I look forward to hearing from any of my classmates. May the bidding for the 1/2 empty bedroom commense. lol.

back when i was there someone put a 172 into the ground hard enough to break the oleo strut but no prop strike happened, and a cfi was on board too.

They have the PPL course in RIC now? Good luck at ATP you should have a lot of fun. Lots of stress too. haha. as for the 1/2 empty room, they just fill rooms as students come in. Just because you're not using it doesnt mea they wont throw the next student that comes in, in that room. Unless you say you want it, and you just never end up staying in there.

Tho they dont wnat people breaking their planes it happens. WHen i was instructing I tailed striked a cessna, taking out the rear tie-down. haha. I told them I did it, and the only thing that happened was MX took into the hangar, checked it out, and replaced the tie down. My CP gave me some crap about it, half jokingly/half serious and that was it. Nothing happened to the student. I tried to protect him, telling him, I did it, no one needs to know you were flying it. but for some reason in class the next day he told everyone he was in the plane. go figure. He was a great pilot. Sometimes we just have our bad landings. Just remember, those landings arent limited to your ppl days. I have had my share at my regional airline, and as a jumpseater, I have seen some Major airline pilots have a bad one. its just the way it is.

Hey all. New to the site, just starting ATP in a few weeks. Crazyjeep - looks like we'll be classmates. Have you moved to richmond yet? My wife and I also relocated here so I could go to school. She's working in the Peds ER unit at VCU. If you need help moving or learning your way around just let me know!
