| Newbie | I would like to know what makes a good student follow the model ATP is looking for to be a CFI for them. I believe in modeling--- worked in Information Technology many years and i have found anyone can model a successful tech its just semantics such as in a previous post someone commented about being kicked out of the cfi program after completing all the writtens. I want to make sure and im sure any other serious students out there about to start thier training wants to follow the unwritten model to achieve thier goals. Of course , most of us including myself want to use the cfi program to gain hours but i think you have to have the mindset to be the best instructor you can be first. --Like the cable guy says "getr done" So whats the best plan of attack to get the most out of ATP and also what do they (ATP) want to see --(during training) to be an instructor for them ie follow rules ,mask conflicting personalities, study your AOFF. Im starting at the location in Arlington April 7th. What are the instructors like there and what kind of format do they follow. Thanks John |

Hey JR I don't have an answer for you but, I thought I'd let you know... I just had my interview today at Arlington. I was told to expect a call on Monday to set a start date. I talked to Jason at JAX on friday and he said I could probably expect an April 14th start date. Send me a PM if you'd like. It will be nice to get to know a few ppl before going down there. It will be bad enough leaving the wife and daughter behind in Tulsa for 90+days. See you soon PS all the instructors I met at GKY were pretty cool. I got to watch part of a sim session. My observation of that particular instructor was that during the sim time, he would give firm instructions ie ATC instruction. Let the student try to follow, When the student got lost or puzzled he asked (In a firm but polite way) what he was trying to do, kind of talk him through while letting student try to work his way through, then after no luck pausing sim and going to dry-erase board to explain the situation and actually turn the students struggle into a positive learning session. My interviewing instructor, can't remember his name, was a cool guy. He's from Hawaii and had some good stories to share after the business end of the interview. Gerrad seems to be one of the incharge guys. He gave me a quick tour of the facility when I popped in unexpectedly Friday night. |
