Default DWH Hooks Airport Location

Has anyone been to Hooks airport and checked out their facility?

How are the instructors and DE's?

Stopped there on my XC's.

Facility is simple, and located on the second floor of an FBO. Rooms looked nice (carpet, etc).

Airport is a bit hairy with the strange taxiway and runway configuration.

On the other side of the field, there is a really nice pilot shop and restaurant.

Just my two cents...

NJT

PS: Watch out for the thunderstorms, we almost died flying in one near there.

I went through the 90day there... actually was the first todo so. Took a while to get things started but by the time I left things appeared to be moving at a decent pace.

The facility isn't anything spectacular but has what it needs, the sim is new as of last summer and some pretty decent classrooms as well. They have a handful of examiners who I found to be very helpful and fair/by the book, scheduling rides can be tricky at times as they are all Continental captains plus the availability of aircraft and weather.

Hooks airport is a good place to learn, I thought the controllers were good and was able to visit the tower. Like NJT said the restaurant there is good too, good place to eat and check out the ramp on the other side.

Oh, if there are still 2 separate locations for housing you gotta get Stoneleigh, Its much closer and newer than Lakebridge.

miles what did you mean by "scheduling rides can be tricky at times as they are all Continental captains "?

So the DE's weren't as strict?

The DE's were as fair as any other DE I had from an FBO or elsewhere, the Gouge for them was the PTS.

The primary job for many of the DE's at the DWH location while I was there was flying at Continental. Being an airline pilot doesn't always allow you to be available on those days when you are ready for your checkride, there are times where you may have to wait a day or four (longish for ATP standards I think) for a trip to finish. No big deal, just more time to study!

Rob, if your reading this thread, are the interview questions you listed in the Phoenix thread the same ones at all atp locations?

Yes, from what I recall, the questions/test is all standardized and the results get faxed back to Jax.

I did my primary training at Hooks starting in 2002. Specifically at Hi-Tech Aviation (formerly National Aviation Services). Good equipment and reasonable rates. I still rent aircraft there. The restaurant is great. If you want anymore info on KDWH I got loads. Just send me a PM.
