Default ATP for multi add-on?

I am looking for a place in Chicago to get my multi engine rating because the flight school I attended has their twin down for new engines until spring. Does anyone know of any flight schools with a twin in the Chicago area? I know Waukegan has a Diamond Twin Star, but I would rather not learn on that. If I run out of options in Chicago, I was thinking about flying down to Ft. Lauderdale for a weekend to pound out the rating at ATP. I fly standby and I can stay with family down there so that will not add to the total cost. I am just looking to get this rating out of the way so I can build some time.

You probably won't be able to "pound out" this rating in a weekend and then expect another FBO to allow you to rent a twin with 8 or 10 hours of ME in your logbook. I used to own a Seneca on a lease-back, and my insurance required 250TT, 50 hrs multiengine and 10 hrs make & model to fly the airplane without a local CFI. Regardless of the time a rental pilot may have, the insurance also required a 5 hrs for a checkout for solo flight privileges.

IMHO, I think you would be better off getting your rating from the same place that you plan to build time. At the very least, you should ask them about their rental policy before you make a trip to Florida.
