Does anyone know if ATP has a contract with certain hotels during xc's and how do u get to and from the airport after the overnights?

They book the cheapest room available (i.e. Super 8, Midland, Texas). You usually get back and forth via taxi. Though in certain cases I've heard they will authorize a rental.

As said above, they use the cheapest they can find. Friends of mine who had just been in a certain location that I would be in a few days later would stay at a different place, so its never for sure.

As said above, you use a taxi to get back and forth from hotel to airport. YOU have to pay for this up front. Dont get stuck with without any cash. Always get a receipt, ATP will pay you back for it all. I had $120 some dollars worth of receipts. My XC partner had almost $400.

There was only one time where we really could have used a rental, but ATP did not authorize it, which was stupid. We stayed in Jacksonville for 3 nights. The first night we where in a hotel. $25 to get to the hotel. The next night we where in an apartment. $25 to get to the airport to get the apartment keys. $25 to get to the apartment. Next day we had a XC, again $50 round trip. The next day I decided that after a XC I was going to visit a friend down in Gainesville, so I rented a car on my own from the FBO next door, guess how much I paid for it for 24 hours? About $40 some dollars after it was all said and done. So ATP def. should have given us a rental for our time in Jacksonville. Its a pain in the ass because you go to a place you have never been before. The Jacksonville apartments we stayed in where pretty far from anything to eat, so you sit there and starve unless you get a taxi to take you to a grocery store. Or you order pizza like I did. We did not enjoy our time in Florida.

Every single place we stopped for fuel, we borrowed the loaner vehicle to get food. Use that to your advantage. When we stopped in San Angelo we borrowed the loaner vehicle and took it to the hotel, checked in with our bags and stuff, then we went and took it to Outback for some food. Then we took it with us to the bar. Then we returned it that night and got a taxi back to the hotel. They wouldnt let us keep it overnight.

Has anyone else had the pleasure of driving the San Angelo loaner car? Haha, the engine shuts off when you turn a corner. The door scrapes metal on metal when you open and shut it. Its a fun car.

Yeah, I'm sure you got a lot of winks and holler's from the lovely ladies of San Angelo while you were cruising around in that thing.
And, for your information, the stench of the 80's consist's of long hair, bad music, and exhaust stained carpeting

San angelo, huh? How did you like it? I was there for over 3 months this summer. Its okay for a small city. But its hard to get used to coming from LA. If anyone is ever stuck in San Angelo again, go to grahams central station. HAHA !

That car was the best part of the XC. Door? When I got it the drivers door did not open from the inside. My XC partner had to come around to my side and open it like a Valet.

In SA we stayed at some dump motel, but breakfast was included. It was money!!! Nothing like grits, eggs, and bacon to fill up your stomach on the way to Florida.

Wait until you get to fly into Jasper, AL. The crew car is a sweet old limo. Bring your sunglasses and make your flight partner drive.

Be prepared to stay at apartments for most of your XC's. Bring a sleeping bag, towels, etc.

Man you guys had it bad. My flight partner and I stayed in the Hampton Inns for most of my X/C. The only exceptions was the Howard Johnson in JAX for 2 nights and the Econo Lodge in Mississippi for 1 night. The only time we had to stay at ATP housing was in Atlanta. All in all the X/Cs were a blast. By the way, that caddy is a chick magnet in San Angelo

I have driven that Cadillac many times. I prefer it to the newer Caddys available at that FBO..

My WORST days at Colgan came no where NEAR as bad as those damn Cross Countries at ATP!! Holy ***** am I glad I don't have to go through that crap again!!

I remember having to pay for damn Taxi's all over, sleeping on the floor of nasty ass apartments with like 7 dudes, eating dinner out of a vending machine. No THANK YOU!!!!

Looking back, it was kinda crazy and wild, but seriously, those were some of the worst experiences I've had to this day in my aviation adventures.

Getting stuck in IWA for 7 days because of winds. So close to my home base (RAL), I could probably see it from 30K. Ahhh, the memories!

That would suck to get stuck in Riverside. Especially at the apartments since you cannot walk to a store or anywhere to get food.

Rob usually went out of his way to take "special" care of the people that got stuck in Riverside.

Lies. I would lie and tell them the apartment was full.

Dont you mean it was your XC partner who went out of their way? "drink this and let's go to the hot tub!"
