Default ATP question...

My friend Roger asked me a question yesterday, that I can't quite answer. He wants to attend ATP in Dallas or Atlanta.

He wants to instruct with ATP, and he is aware of all the new "perks."

He said that he called 1-800-ALL-ATPS and asked about the career program. He knows that the RJ course is free for instructors, he said he asked them if he needs to take out the full $55k, since the RJ program is mandatory now for the career program. Or if he would get that $5k back via a check.

He said the guys on the phone told him, no!

If the RJ program is free for instructors, how then can they charge you the $5k the program cost. If you took out the full amount, they should cut you a check when you start instructing for them.

I had no answers for him, maybe one of you ATP'ers can make more sense of the question!

The RJ course is only free to instructors who did not go through the program. Those who went through the program; paid for the jet course as part of their $55k will receive a higher salary once they start instructing.

From what I am told, those of us who signed up before the jet course was required and will instruct there will get the jet course for free and a higher salary.

Nothing is ever "free". Economics 101.

As said above it's free for instructors who didn't go through the program, but in exchange it requires 300 hours dual given at ATP. So it's not really free for them either.

As a ACPP student you can't opt-out of the RJ program for a refund though, just like you can't opt-out of the II, SE-CFI, or any other part of the program.

okay, kool, I'll let my friend Roger know. Not sure what's up in JAX, he said they guys answering the phones were very professional.

But he said when he asked if he could get a refund for the RJ course they just told him point blank no, and moved on.

Had they answered the question in the detail I got here, it would be much more benefiting *I'd think* for customers calling.

Do those guys in JAX know anything, at all, or are they reading from a script?

There was about a month period where ACPP students who instructed for ATP could get the RJ course for free after 300hrs dual given. When the price was only $49,995. However a few weeks later they decided to put the RJ program into the ACPP, so obviously if you are going to go through the program, you dont need to get it as a CFI since you already had it. So they took away that deal.

I believe for CFIs who are instructing now with ATP and went through the program at the old cost with no RJ course, they can still get it for free after 300hrs dual.
