For future planning, I was wondering if any one had don the 10 month self paced course with ATP or if everyone had done the accelerated course. I am seriously looking into ATP, but I don't like the fact that they offer no Vet benefits.....I do like the set price but 62,990 is alot of dough to be paying on for 20 years so I have to be sure. If you are or have been a student at ATP I would appreciate it if you would give me your opinion of the school and whether it is as good as they say......I am also looking at Ari Ben, Skymates, possibly Flight Safety, and Laguna Air Thanks

Vet Benefits do you mean GI Bill? If so they dont offer it because its not part 141. If I had a GI Bill to use up, I would not go to ATP, I would go to a Part 141 FBO and get all my ratings thanks to uncle sam, may take longer and may not give you as much multi, but you sure wont have the debt. -Rob |

PilotDreams83: My experience at local FBO's seem to be long and drawn out compared to my one experience with ATP. My situation was flying at FBO's/local flight schools(part time) on nights and weekends due to full time work took too long and cost more in the long run. At ATP, you pay the cash but it's quick and very effective. If you are going to go full time, and find a way to utilize your military benefits by all means take that route to save on cash. Even the 141 is longer program vs. part 61 but you have a curriculum to go by. You must manage your time and keep your instructors honest and on your plan. You can do it. But if you want to fast track, and eliminate some local school hassels, ATP can provide a good experience and an "airline pilots to be" atmosphere that will prepare your mind for airline transistioning. I studied at ATP ATL for Multi Instrument. It took 3.5 days and I spent several hours in the sim to polish some areas. Tough challenge but I loved it!! The instructors were focused and not playing around. When I got started on my checkride....I realized they trained and prepared me well in a short period of time. It was a great experience. Your call save the money or go ahead and pay and be done with it. It's part of the aviation adventure....utilizing decision making skills...even on how you are going to pay your dues. |
