It's all on how fast the instructors at the location you want to go to get hired. There have been MANY who are here less than a week. It's craps.....ya never know. The more flexible you are the faster you are out.

Start sleeping with the suppliment!!! Know it back and forth. Also V-speeds. When you get here, you'll get a layout of the fuel and electrical systems. You'll learn those inside and out also (not very hard to draw ). Other than that, there really is no need to be nervous. I was when I got here a little over a week ago. The folks here are very welcoming and put my nerves at ease. You're gonna enjoy it.Look me up when you get here. I'm one of Hiram's students. See Ya ---Ken

Well I have been here for just under a week now, and its going pretty good. I have just under 5 hours logged in the Seminole. I have 3 more flights before my checkride on Tuesday for my ME. The pace at first is rather slow, if you know your supplement inside and out, and how to explain everything. I am still studying it like crazy, but Im fairly confident in the oral part. I dont think I will ever be fully confident in the practical. My first 2 flights where a mess. Going from a cessna to a twin engine piper is a huge difference. Not only is everything in a different place, but now you have 2 engines, manifold pressure and props to worry about. My third flight was all pattern work, but I left feeling good about it. We did engine outs and short field landings. The atmosphere around here in Riverside is pretty great, I dont feel like there is anyone here who wants anything but the best for me. There is no chief pilot, so the schedule is set between the student and the instructor. All of the people I met when I first arrived have pretty much left, finishing up the program this week. I am the newest student here, and it doesnt look like there are any 90 day people starting soon. The apartments are pretty good, although a bit far from the school. One guy who is in my apartment is never there, I heard his parents live near by so he stays there, and then the other 2 guys finished this week. So I have no one else in the apartment besides myself, which is great for studying and not having to worry about bothering others, but kind of sucks when your from Virginia and dont know anyone. Everyone says that after your multi-engine checkride the pace picks up ALOT, so I should take this for granted I guess that I have a bit of down time. Oh, and not having to worry about weather is great! The only thing in the skies of California is haze, which looks disgusting, but oh well. -Rob |

Hey dude, Sorry I haven't had a chance to see you yet. I'm stuck in the middle of frigin' Texas now. The other day we had to divert to a very small town in New Mexico called, Lordsburg. We were enroute to ELP when the TS's started closing in pretty quickly. It was a good choice to make to. Now we're in San Angelo. We couldn't leave out of here yesterday because of the afternoon storms, and today my flight partner got sick, so no flying today either. Hopefully tomarrow we'll make it to JAX. It isn't very likely though. These storms are like clockwork, they start buliding in the late morning, and are fully formed around 2 to 3 o'clock. It sure makes life interesting. It sounds like your doing well back in riverslime. Keep it up. It goes by very fast, and before you know it, you'll be stuck in the middle of no-mans-land also. See Ya Ken

Well at least your not doing RAL-SAC back and fourth. Chris (I think he is your roommate) had said that was most of his XCs. I hope it does start to fly by soon, right now its laggin'. Although, Im NOT looking forward to Instrument training. San Angelo... Should see a Colgan Saab there.. -Rob |

They have about 5 instructors, however almost all of them are nearing the time when they can start applying to regionals, and a few of them are doing the RJ course. So I would say in about a month and a half its going to be a new class of instructors. Hopefully they are as cool as the ones here now. -Rob | |

The instructors at RAL shouldn't be considered real pilots, in my opinion. Jtsastre |

Who are the instructors at Riverside right now? Is Keith still there You should go next door to Cal Aviation and talk to Jake, he did the program with me a while back and is a cool guy. Did you have Steve Holmes or Tom Ham for your Check Ride?
