| Old Skool | So as many of you know I'm working on my CFI. Basically they need a CFI as fast as possible at my current place. However I feel as if the progress is going slower then needed. My old CFI took a new job and the new guy is older and has the manuevers down like no other. However the book work he is very weak on. So now I am thinking about my options. My single checkride got moved back until the 23rd. So I was thinking perhaps I should sign up for the 4 day multi course and then go right into the CFI course? How much time does one need between courses and before starting? I just wonder how much studying and preparing is needed before hand because I'd want to start as soon after the 23rd as possible. Whatever class that might be. So any input on going to ATP and doing the multi/CFI courses would be great. I've been wondering how things go there as far as this goes and would appreciate any input on the CFI courses. I've done the search feature but got a mixed bag of things and older forums. I'd like to see whats happening now and what you all think or thought of your experiences? Seems like the best deal out there for a CFI-MEI in addition to getting it done in 14 days as opposed to 3-4 months it'd take me here. |

| I am planning to do the same thing at ATP eventually (MEI Commercial and CFI-I). I read somewhere else here that they are only accepting students for the CFI-I course that will be instructing at ATP afterward, due to high instructor demand. Like I said, read that here. You may want to just give them a call to be sure. And hey, let me know what you find out if you do! |

I think it's reasonable to expect between 50-80 hours multi a month depending on location. So... including your flight time for your MEI and your CFI initial, your II, and your SE-add on... you would be somewhere between 500+ and 650 hours TT (possibly more) within that time frame... of which 250+ would be multi. | Old Skool | As much as I want to go and do this as it'd be best for my career I'm not sure if I will be able to or not yet. After speaking with the lady she wasnt the most pleased about this. Since I was informing her it'd be like 4-6 months of being gone and a good possibility of not seeing me. Needless to say that didnt go over well. Now its time to do some thinking and figure things out. |

| Old Skool | Yeah I got the "babe do what's best for you and your career" and then was thinking about how to take that. I think she'd be supportive and ok with it but I really have some thinking to do. Would ATP be best for me? Probably but do I have alternatives as well yes. Thing is I dont have a specific location I'd want either, any location would work fine for me. So now its just time to do some thinking. If I started in the June 18th then I'd be done about the 1st of July. And then if hired hwo knows what happens then. |

| Do I understand correctly, they wont allow you into the 14 day cfi/ii/mei program unless you agree to be an instructor with them. Do you have to sign an agreement? Actually, I'f its a guranteed job, and you could do it, wouldnt be bad to get all the multi time, as most flight schools are only gonna give you lots of single time...But anyone know the skinny? |

| Does this right of first refusal thing sound just a little weird to anyone else? You're a freakin customer! It's not like they're doing you any favors, you're paying for the course! Now, if they were paying for it, or offered a discount, that'd be a different story.... Of course, it's probably a simple matter to tell them to buzz off once you're done with the course if you don't want to work for them.

| Senior Member | I know I've beaten this question to death...and I'll probably find out for myself when I go do my II/MEI in 2 weeks, but are there any locations where you wont even get 40-50 hours/month? I'd like to get as much info as possible as to which locations I'd be willing to go to (since if they hire me I have no problem moving anywhere in the country).

| Old Skool | Way back when (man, I sound old) there were some locations where you could go a week with nothing happening. Jasper (BHM) and PNS come to mind. I'm not sure if it's still like that. Most of the quiet locations have some sort of action going on on the side. I know the Bowling Green guys used to fly around a Kingair some times and Joey in Jasper kept the CFIs there busy when they weren't flying. That was all 3-4 years ago now though so it may have changed. |
