| Senior Member | **Disclaimer: I do feel stupid that I did not know the definition to a few of these, my excuse is that I have been studying weather/seminole/vmc stuff so much that remembering basics kind of slipped, and I was nervous as hell!** Well James called and we did the phone interview. He called on my cell phone while I was at work and I asked to call him back on a work phone since I was worried that I would lose signal. So I called back and was put on hold for about 5 minutes, and in those 5 minutes all I could think about was how much I didn’t know and how I was going to screw this up royally! Which I only slightly did James started off by asking which location I wanted to go to, and how I was financing the whole thing. We talked about how I need about 20 more hours before I can begin and I can either get those 20 more hours at home, or show up 4 days before class and get them in. I know I would much rather get them at home flying with friends, so hopefully the weather will be nice but at least I have an option. Then we went into the question part. I had told him that I had flown a C152 most of my training but the last 7 or 8 hours was done in a C172, and since its been almost 3 months since I have flown and I have been hammering that Seminole packet into my brain, I have been slipping on the V speeds of the C152. YOU MUST KNOW THEM ALL!! James asked questions like: -When and why do you use flaps? -Tell me about the fuel system? -Why do you turn off the fuel on an emergency landing? -What makes a plane fly? -What’s an airfoil? -What is Bernoulli's principle? (Thanks for the correction SpirMirabilis) I will admit that I absolutely screwed this one up. I did not know the definition and I could not even BS it. I felt like a complete idiot. -Your at 75% power in straight and level flight, what speed should you expect? And is that knots or mph? There where more, but I don’t want to give all the questions out as it is a little unfair and some what cheating. Just know your V speeds and why they are what they are!!! Either way James told me that I did fine but that I should go over the ones I didn’t do well on. Oh and I pretty much picked Riverside (KRAL) on June 25th as my start date!!! Which is scary because I live in Virginia and I plan a cross country road trip to get out there. -Rob Last edited by v1valarob; May 8th, 2007 at 17:39. |

| Bernoulli doesn't have a theory of flight.

| Senior Member | Your right, he has a principle. Which I am memorizing to a damn T right now. I wasnt even told to study this for my PPL oral. Although I still feel like an idiot not knowing it. I have always hated memorizing the defintion of things and then just reading it back, I felt that does nothing unless you understand it. But I have come to the conclusion that if I am going to do well, Im going to need to do just that, Memorize definitions. -Rob |

Why didn't you just look this stuff up on the internet using wikipedia or something while he was asking you questions?

I've also never heard it referred to as anything other than "Bernoulli's Principle", never theory or principle of flight (which makes sense since I just learned he died 122 years before the Wright brother's flew ).And I think we've all had a "oh crap I know I should know this" moment at some point. You made it through. Just study/refresh like you are and get ready for more!

Yea, I have been reading over Bernoulli's principle since I got home and I think its just one of those things that my ground school took about 10 seconds on and no one ever mentioned again and during PPL training I was too busy memorizing and trying to grasp other things. Oh well, live and learn and now others will know to know it. Oh, and James did say "I wouldnt tell people that you didnt know that" but I have no problem putting it out there so someone else wont screw up like I did. -Rob | |
