Default Checkride Fees

The People at ATP told me to set aside $4K for checkrides. On there site it says something like $2400, for the 90 day program which is correct? How much did you guys spend on checkrides?

Your looking a 300-400$ per checkride. I think you can do them with the FSDO for free.

Has anyone used their VA benefits for the checkride fees? How does that process work?

The $2400 figure is based on you passing every checkride the first time. When I was at ATP doing 90-day students, I would say about 60-70% made it through without busting one (tho with my students I had a 100% pass rate-sorry, had to toss that in!). They prob want you to have a buffer in the event that you bust a checkride or 2. Also, the fees vary a bit depending on who the examiner is - so they prob inflate the amount so you don't wind up short on cash to pay the examiner - cause they only take cash.

I spent $2,700 on all my checkrides, thats counting one bust. In PHX during all my time there, there was only one person who made it through withought busting one checkride, and he was on the 10 month program, Things may have changed since I was there though 6 months ago.

Private $200
Instrument $275
Commercial $250
CFI Free w/ FAA
ME $400
Will be doing CFII and MEI here soon at $300 each. So, I guess that all figures up to $1725...no failures and I started about 7 years ago. The DE I went to for private and instrument is charging 300 or 400 now for private...I'd say $3,000 is a good figure as long as you don't bust many.
