Anyone have experience doing their multi-add on in DC. Any idea of the approaches they use?

It was a couple of years ago...but the ILS into HEF is one you'll use for sure, maybe the GPS at HEF. Probably hit holding at CSN, then a GPS or VOR into CJR. Heading into W66 is possible, but unlikely since it's so close to the ADIZ. It's possible though unlikely that you'll head all the way out to Winchester, in which case I'd look over the LOC and ILS there. I recall doing my engine out and VMC work over CJR after a missed approach. Any idea who your DE might be? -LC |

Like LostComm said, you can expect to do a single-engine ILS 16L into HEF if the winds are blowing from the south. Typical profile usually includes exiting the ADIZ, performing the standard six maneuvers (steep turns, slow flight, power off/on stalls, Vmc demo, emergency descent) somewhere between CSN and KCJR. Somewhere in the middle of all that, you'll perform an engine shutdown, secure, and restart (with some maneuvering before you restart) over KCJR. Pattern work usually occurs at KCJR or W66. On the way back to KHEF, you'd shoot the ILS. If the winds are blowing out of the north, expect either the ILS into KOKV or KRMN before returning to KHEF for the visual to 34R. Of course, this is simply what 'usually' happens, your ride/training might differ depending on NOTAMs, Wx, etc. Regardless, the current instructors at the DC location are great and teach to the PTS. The examiners are extremely professional and fair... all that anyone can really ask for in an examiner. Best of luck with your add-on wherever you decide to do it.
