Default Cross Countries (10 month)

I was just wondering how the cross country portion of the ACPP program is handled for 10 month students. I understand the fast track students are paired up with another student at the beginning and the two share the same instructor and progress through the program together...and i'm assuming the pair do all the XC flying together too?...or is it all mixed up and you can get a random guy from time to time on the XC flying? Do 10 month self paced students just do the XC flying with their instructor, or do they get paired with another self paced student, or are they paired with random fast track students?

Just wondering. I'll be starting in May.

I went through 90 days program. During my cross country phase, I have flown with few self - paced students. No, I did not fly with my training partner till almost end of corss country phase.

You tell dispatch which days you are available to fly. On those days you call dispatch in the morning, they tell you who you're flying with. It all depends -- if there is another 10 monther with a similar schedule as you at the same time you might fly with them a lot. Otherwise you'll just be flying with whoever is available (students).

You will do all your XC flying with other students. Depending on how many days you have available at a time dispatch will find places for you to go. If you can only do 1 day at a time they will ground another pair of XC students at a location and you will fly day trips with one of them. If you can do a few days at a time they will fly you all over the place. They may airline you to another location to meet up with another student. Try to give them at least 4 days at a time if you can. If not, what ever you can do, they will work with you.

I am a 10 monther at ATP Arlington. I did all out and backs. It was a good experience as I flew with several other pilots. I would have liked to have done something other than out and backs. I took off 5 days in a row and was sent out on just out and backs. Oh well. There was at least one 90 dayer who was also sent on just out and backs. Each time I brought my suitcase "just in case". I will be done in just over 6 months though. It would have been 5 but as a 10 monther 90 dayers are given priority. I had two weeks were I was stalled out. On top of that I have been passed over a couple of times. No big deal...more time to study. Being a 10 monther I have read every book cover to cover. I feel very prepared. BTW Gearmonkey....awesome site!

Hey Geek, were you totally dedicated to flying or were you working or going to school as well?

I held down a 40 hour a week job until today. I work (ed) 5 miles from the airport. I set up a set schedule with my instructors. I worked 7-4 everyday. I went to the airport at 4:30 Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. I set aside Sunday for whatever meaning from 10AM until the lesson is done. It is much easier if you can dedicate set times and days and never change them. Good luck to you. I head off for CFI school Sunday. Still hard to believe this time last year I was sitting in a cubicle starring out the window.

WOW...There are some real inspirational ATP success stories on this site...

Are you guys the minority? It doesn't seem possible so many people can finish the ATP program within the time / money advertised.

Whats the catch?

Actually LAFF,

Those stories are the "majority". Love 'em or hate 'em... one of the best things about ATP is the time/money coming in exactly as advertised...

"90 day" grads are finishing between 70-110 days depending on weather mostly... and "10 monthers" can and usually do finish well before the 10 month mark.
