To all who are considering going to ATP...I am currently a student on the career program. I can tell you that when I first got there it was great. I was paired with an instructor for a little time building. He taught me alot. Then I started with my AMEL and Instrument instructor. I hated that time there. My instructor was a still in her partying phaze of her life. I would be told to be there at a certain time and I would get a Text message in the middle of the night telling me to be there later...I would get these messages until I was out the door and looked at my phone. On average my time to be there would change atleast three or four times a day. I think she was recovering from a hangover or meeting her boyfriend. Either way it would waste my whole day for her schedule. I am now on my cross countries and am glad that part is over. I am about half way through with my Cross Countries. I think your experiences will really depend on your instructor. Its good when you have a good instructor and bad when you get someone that is just there to get their time and move on...If you have any questions about ATP I will be more than happy to answer them. Good Luck to those of you that choose ATP. It is a good program. I just hope you get good instructors. I make all the difference.

I would have done the same thing JEP suggested. That kind of behavior out of an instructor would not have stood... especially with my money and career on the line. The management take those issues very seriously, always feel free to give them a ring after trying to work it out with your instructor and/or base manager (if you have one) first. Either way... Enjoy the Cross Country phase! That was a blast! Hope you brought your camera. Keep us updated on your progress too... Oh yeah... welcome to JetCareers! Bob

Well I am doing my instrument training now...actually did the Oral part today...flight got postponed due to weather. I too got my start time each day changed two or three times a day. Which for me is very difficult because I am married with two small kids. My instructor and I didnt get along well. I dont think my instructor really knows what kind of responsibilites that comes with having a family. Anyways I enjoy the training just wish it was on somewhat of a regular schedule. I remember talking to the guys in Jacksonville and they told me that the instructors would work around my schedule. I think my instructor tried but could have made it fit alittle better for me. Wish me luck on the checkride tomorrow!

yeah man, good luck! Sounds about right with anyplace though, you get some good instructors and you get some bad. The main thing is that it's your money. So if you are unhappy about something, take action. |

Wow that does kinda suck dude. I am sure it is not just an ATP thing though. There are crappy workers everywhere. I had a few cruddy issues with the FBO I was at, but not the instructor (they liked to erase me off the schedule for soemone more important I guess). You really do have to stand up for yourself though. For the money you are paying out, I am sure a call to the HQ would get you changed. Personally, I would have never given my cell phone number out. It gives them to much freedom to pull that kind of stuff. Then she would not have been able to simply text message you and she would be a no show, giving you an even bigger case. Gosh I hope I don't run into an instructor like that when I go. Let me rephrase that, gosh I hope an instructor like that does'nt run into me when I go |

Actually the instructor will have your cell phone number from before day 1. I can handle a schedule change or two, but it sounds like you should have brought the matter to the attention of the higher ups or stood up for yourself more. They would not have stood for it.

It is not unheard of to get assigned a different instructor if for some reason you and them don't mesh. I would have had a sit down with the instructor by yourselves first and explain that as a customer you have some expectations that she needs to meet: consistancy, etc. I'd say this can solve a lot of the problems, and I'm sure the instructor would appreciate you having a sit down with them first. Plus, you can't be told you didn't try to work it out before going higher up. If that did not resolve things I would then talk to the CP at the location you're at (if there is one.) 90% or more of the time the CP will quickly solve the problem one way or another. If for some reason this doesn't solve your problems, then I'd probably call some of the higher ups -- tell them you tried resolving it with the instructor and the CP and couldn't so they know you didn't just skip those steps. When it all comes down to it you are a customer first. |

As said above not getting along with your instructor happens anywhere you go. Sounds like she liked to party a bit to much, sounds like I would have gotten along pretty well with her, but seriously you can only be mad at yourself for not sitting down with her and tell her whats up. Let her know your not gonna take it anymore or you will go to a higher up, or don't schedule me before 10:00 untill you can stop partying etc... And yeah are you in Phoenix by any chance? RTO's can push the schedules back more than anything. Good times at RTO's. And I think I know who you are talking about if you are at IWA.
