| Hi- I started flying this past summer but because of working alot, taking classes and other obligations I only have around 20 hours. I went back to school in September and haven't flown since. This was my last semester at school so I'm done now. I'm hoping to enter ATP this summer and am going to start flying again mid-Janurary after we get back from vacation. How far should I get before entering ATP? I heard it is good to take the instrument and commercial tests before starting? Basically, what after PPL should I be focused on? |

Here's a snap shot from what I know for the ACCP; you must have obtained a 1st class medical prior to enrollment (they just want to make sure you are employable) you don't need to maintain it for the duration of training. They also highly recommend that you have passed your written for Instruments, Commercial and Fundamentals of Instruction (FOI) prior to beginning training. There is a lot to learn in 90 days, and by doing this "front loading" puts you that much ahead of the power curve. Wait a minute, here's the link http://www.atpflightschool.com/index.html With 20 hrs you may be interested in the PPL program to complete your private with them. Hope this helps, I'm also starting the ACCP this coming summer I can't wait. | |

| I would definately recomend the ppl course. Having the 20 hours to start with is a big help. If you are like me I had a few hours going in which allowed me to polish my skills finish the requirements for the checkride and have a lot of hours left for cross country single flying. I made 2 trips from Jax to Dal and also Jax to Phx which we spent all of it on instrument flying which is a big help in the ACPP. As for the tests get those done asap it will make your life much easier. You will have enough to keep you busy just with school. Also I would recomend doing the ground instructor test as well they helped big time in the intial cfi and it is something nice to put on your resume. |
