Default time spent at atp

ok so i was reading up on flight schools since today was my day off and i noticed something that sort of caught me off guard. i saw some people in the hire section only take little more than a year to get hired while others had over two years invested. what is that all about? i mean i have nothing as of now and i noticed someone who started and was hired in all of 14 months while some other guy took his time and was hired over 26 months. what is the average time for people from start to finish? does it matter what location you go to? how long did you instruct? thank you to all that respond. im not saying im going to atp but i have noticed a lot of positive feedback on this forum.

amorris,

Many of those folks did the 10 month self-paced program. That's the easiest answer.

Other answers are:
- Some folks may have worked at a location where they didn't build their time as fast as another faster paced location.
- Some folks may have held out for their airline or company of choice, or wanted to build more than the "minimum" time required to get hired.
- Some folks may have not been hired at their first interview of their airline of choice... and instead of going to another airline they waited until they could re-apply again at their airline of their choice.
- Others may have left after training and got some experience at an FBO... then came back to ATP after a year or so to build some multi time quickly.

That's what I can think up off of the top of my head. Hope that helps...

Bob

I know of three folks that went on millitary leave. ATP is very good about that with students and instructors.

Yes I did my training in Dallas... That was a BUSY location.

Most of the slower ones are the ones that don't offer the 90 day ACPP. Those sites usually just do the Add-ons and advanced ratings... Multi, MEI/II, Commercial Multi, ATP, etc. These locations typically only have one instructor. You'll usually find those locations near military bases since about 80 percent of ATP's add-on business is military men and women getting their ATP/FE writtens and ATP ratings.

Some people prefer those locations due to proximity to their home... or they just enjoy the slower pace and are having fun instructing, or it was the first location that came available for them to instruct at and they didn't want to wait around the office for something else to come up. (See Airdale's posts) It's taking him longer... but he's near his girlfriend which is very important to him.

Some guys stick around for 135 mins before they leave... others... like I said... for any of the reasons above. Is it common? Yes and no... It's common in that you'll see guys doing it... but the vast majority who go to ATP want to get to the airlines fast to start building 121/turbine time and that's a big reason why they chose them as a flight school. So... those folks are out of their as soon as they meet the mins and have been successfully interviewed by an airline. Regardless... you have a choice.

One more thing... some guys choose not to do the Regional Jet Standards Course that is offered to ATP instructors and Alumni at a discount, and allows folks the opportunity to interview at reduced mins at several airlines. So as a result... they, in effect, are choosing to stay at ATP and instruct a bit longer until they meet the regular mins on their own.

I was a 10 month'er who got hired after 6 months of instructing, hence the website says it took me 16 months from the start of training to regional job.
