Hello fellow aviators! I will be visiting the JAX location in 2 weeks and begin the privates program with ATP next summer. My question is, of the locations that offer the fast track program option, which has that best all round atmosphere. (May be Phoenix or Dallas) More specifically it seems to me that JAX location is the mecca of the ATP locations. (More equiptment, more students, more flight hours for CFI's ect.) Secondly, does the article on ATP's website closely or loosely resemble what the Airline Career Pilot Program is like? http://www.atpflightschool.com/airli...t_2006-03.html -Adam

Dallas IMO, but Phoenix people might tell me I'm full of it. I don't know why but everytime I went into JAX I wanted to leave as soon as possible. I don't like Florida, I think.

Thank you for your posts. As a perspective consumer, the only real way to grasp an overall picture is the visit the schools. Reading about Ari Ben, this school does seem second choice if money is no object. My concern with Ari is that they DO NOT offer sim time. Does anyone feel that sim is very important. After all when you apply at an airline they will put you in their sim. Ari Ben seems also more personable which could be a positive or a negative, dependant upon the applicant. -Adam

Sim time is important to a certain extent. The sim time, before getting in a real plane, will help you a lot with your IFR scan, situational awareness, and basic IFR navigation. I love sims for initial IFR training. The downside from a cost/benefit standpoint is your paying for something that you can't put in the multi engine flight time column. Ari touts no sims in their ads like it's a benefit. You can look at it that way but, as a CFII who wants his student to perform at their best in the real airplane, I'd rather see a guy come in with some time in a sim. Also, let's not confuse sim with ground trainer. Airlines use sims, flight schools use ground trainers. You really can't compare the two.
