I've searched the forums and it looks like this issue has been mentioned but a clear answer was never given. I'm two quarters from graduating and I'm thinking about doing the 90 day this fall. Afterwards I'd like to instruct and finish my degree during the winter and spring quarters through a few online courses. It sounds like this would be very difficult at one of the busier locations but what about at a slower location? Could this be an option?

Its possible, but you don't get to pick your location, and you'll be working the office in JAX before you even get your location

You def. will get to work in the JAX Corp. Office answering phones first, which you will have time for some online school work but you also have to be prepping for the "Rich Ride." That being said, you CAN pick your location. On the second day or so of Indoc. they will ask you in seniority order your top 3 choices for location... on a conditional understanding that by limiting the location you are willing to work for, you may end up in the call center in JAX longer. That said, welcome to my week four in the "pit" as I'm holding out for Dallas (Arlington). Many other guys have come and gone because they weren't wanting a specific spot, or the spot they wanted became open. Chris

Dude, you can't log phone time! Get out there and fly... you'll get to Dallas eventually, but I swear you'll enjoy life better in the cock"pit" vs. the office"pit". ![]() Bob

Hey Bob, Sure you can log it.. Registration: 914V Type: Samsung SyncMaster =) I'm PIC'ing the desk!!!! Airlines are gonna love it.... I think it counts as SE Turbine thanks to the ducted fans =) The um... transfer to another location doesn't seem to be happening anymore like it used to... so for QOL, i'm in the hold with no EFC. I think things are gonna be lookin' good for dallas soon enough though. Chris

Thanks for your replies. I'm guessing Rich must be the chief pilot?

It would be impossible to go to school and work at one of the busy ATP locations..

We sang some Irish Drinking Song.... and also he taught me the song to the cruise checklist... never knew their was a song to it... hehe "22... 23... four green left and right... cowl flaps as required... fuel pumps / landing lights... lean the mixtures one by one..." yadda yadda yadda...... Couldn't agree more with you about the 2 sides of the "Rich Ride" though... The other guy went first on my ride... wasn't pretty. Chris

My Rich ride had literally 1 hour notice, I was a friggin unorganized wreck. I'm surprised I remembered what my name was, I felt like I was in such a daze that day. But it wasn't an impossible flight. I actually enjoy flying with Rich, even though its tougher then any checkride, because when he teaches, you learn a heck of a lot more then any other instructor could teach you. I flew pretty decent with him, in my opinion of course But I know I could have flown a lot better, it certainly wasn't my best two days in an airplane that's for sure. But Rich taught me an aweful lot in two days, and yesterday I flew with my first student, and all I could hear in my head was Rich's voice and the things I learned on my Rich ride. I was able to put it to use and I felt pretty good after the flight because the student did a great job for his first flight in a twin, and I'd like to think I did something right. | |
