Default HOW IS HOUSING IN JAX?

Just curious as to how the housing is for the ACPP students? Is it 2/1 or 2/2? How would you charterize the housing? Good? Fair? Are you paired with other students studying at the same level as yourself?

Any input would be appreciated.

Housing in Jax is one of the best. SUA and PHX are also very good. Its a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment. Its 2 per bedroom for a total of 4 in an apartment. They usually like to keep students with other students and instructors with instructors. HOwever there is no guarentee that you would be staying with people that have the same start date with you. Its just whichever apt has an opening on your start date.

good luck.

Danforth (the apartments in JAX) is far from the best of anything. Plan on doing a lot of cleaning before you move in, and buy some flip flops to wear around the apartment, you will need them.

Basically when the previous student finishes the program they pack up their stuff and leave with no one else ever coming in to clean the place. From what I have seen, the dirt just builds and builds.

I think the problem is that typically there are 4 people per apartment and rarely do they all move out at once. Usually, just one or two at any given time. I guess it is hard to schedule good cleanings when 2-3 people are still in the apartment. The other big problem is that most people have the attitude of, oh im only going to be here for two months or 90 days so why bother cleaning it if I am leaving right away.

Personally, I am one of those people who can't study if my surroundings are dirty and unorganized.

The Danforth Apartments are decent. It really depends on your roommates and specific apartment. As others have said, it's 2 bedroom and 2 bath. Sometimes, you may have a single with only a total of 3 people in the apartment. Other times, you may have people sleeping on the couch during their cross-countries. My apartment has always been among the cleanest, so I don't have any complaints. If you previously lived in a nice, big house with a maid, then you may not be pleased. If you're like me (was living in college dorms and apartments), these apartments will do just fine. The apartment complex is safe and equipped with a small gym with a raquetball court, outdoor swimming pool, tennis court, sand volleyball court and basketball court. Keep your place clean and you shouldn't have any problems.

blee256 & modesto2:

Ok so just to make clear, in JAX, there is 2/2 and four people are assigned. Period.

One other question, what are the possibilities of getting a 2/2 and having only two people assigned? Does situation exists? Is there only one apartment complex that ATP owns? Sorry for the rambling. Just trying to get a feel for what to expect and see what other housing options may be available.

Thanks again,

I guess the best way to look at is, the most you will ever have is 2 per room for a total of 4 people. Sure there are times when you may only have 1 or 2 other people living with you, but dont count on it. Its all luck. But Jax is the busiest (at least it used to be), so dont think you will have a room to yourself.

and ATP doesnt own any apartment complexes, they just sign a corporate lease with one.

Timbuff, yeah i think anywhere you go, you might run into that problem. WHen i first started at ATP, Danforth was brand new. I was the first tenant in apt XXX. SO it was clean. ANd i think my roomates and I did a good job of keepingit that way. But you can see how after2-3 years, it can get dirty.

blee256,

Thanks for all the good insight. I certainly appreciate it. When I do tour the JAX facility, I will request to tour the housing complex as well. With a 32K - 44K investment, don't need any distractions whatsoever.

See you out there one day.

Best wishes & blue skies.

How is the housing at the ATL location? Is it the same in terms of # of occupants in the JAX housing complex?

Promise, this is my last inquiry.

Our apt was thouroughly lived in by the time I got there. I visited 4 or 5 of the apts in JAX and all of the ones I saw were pretty nasty except for one. It was a second floor on the corner of the building closest to the entrance facing the pond. That one was actually really nice, had nice new furniture, and all that stuff. Every other one that I visited or lived in were all on the first floor and filthy.

In Dallas, I ended up with the dirtiest one by far. The others that I saw were not great but not too shabby either. I took the first day and actually mopped, vacummed, and lysoled the entire place. It wasn't too bad after that.

As far as the # of folks living there. When I was in Jax, we had 4 people when I moved in, then after a month one left so for about a week we had 3 people, then back to 4 and then for about a week we had 6 people living in the apartment. Two new hire instructors stayed with us. Then my roomie moved out and we were down to 5 and a few weeks later I was gone which left 4.

In Dallas, I moved in and it was just me and one other guy, then a few days later my partner showed up and it was three of us, then one guy moved out and it was down to two of us for a few weeks. After that we got 2 more guys and it was us four for the rest of the time I was there.

It all depends on timing... Kind of like everything in this business.

It was nice to have a room to myself for the first two weeks. It really lets you get those writtens done quick.

In all though, I would take a dirty ATP apartment that I have to clean before I move in, rather than having to find my own place and worry about roommates to split the bill with.

Don't stop asking questions at the topic of apartments... You still have all the flying to do!

Timbuff10:

Thanks alot man. I really appreciate your responses.

You know, making that kind of investment and having not only to deal with the pressure of attaining my goals in a "prescribed time frame" and being able to show that I'm proficienct in my knowledge and skill...just having to deal with personality issues, cleanliness, etc. etc. etc......well, just wanna get a feel for the enviroment and keep distractions to a minimum.

One other option I have is to get back with my ex-wife in Ft. Pierce and go to the Stuart, FL location. I hear they have the 90 day program as well. Besides, we have 2yr old son & a mortgage on a 2/2 two-story townhome that is less that $420.00/mo.

All in all, I know that I'll just have to adapt and overcome!!! Oh and believe you me, I will be asking question not only of my fellow students, instructors and staff, but also from you guys on this forum. I plan on using ALL of my resources.

Thanks again my friend.

People I know that have done their ACP program in SUA, loved it. All of them have nothing but great things to say about it.

No matter where you go the most you will have in a bedroom is 2 people. Most are 2 bedroom apts. I think PHX might have some of the 3 bedroom variety. Hope that answers your ATL question. The instructors at the locations should be checking each apt. when a new student moves in. If its too dirty, they should make a call in to the office. The office should be helpful, if its really bad they will arrange a cleaning (carpet shampoo).

When I was at ATP, i lucked out with apatments. In JAX, they used to be at a place called melrose, it i guess it was pretty bad, so some people complained, and thats how the new apartments came about. Then right beofre i transferred out to RIV, the apt. were really bad, so the instructors called up the office and asked if we could move. So the office just gave them a list of criterias, and they went apt. hunting, They found a new place adn the company signed a new lease. So each time I got to live in a brand new apt. ATP's management is reasonable. Some are just too afraid to ask. haha

good luck

There is not about 1 location or another that changes "how many people are there.." It's just a matter of what you get.. is what you get..

I did my training in Dallas.. There were 4 of us for about 2 weeks.. Then there were 2 of us.. So we each got our own room, right until the last week or so of training and we got 2 more roomies.. One of which was a female, so I slept on the couch (I could have moved to another apartment, but by the time I got booted, I had like 2 days left.. isn't it funny though, women want "equality in aviation" and things such as this are still afforded to them? Annnnywaayy...)

After I started working for ATP, while in Jax I had 3 roommates, then it dropped to 2 roommates and I had my own room.. then it went back to 3 roommates for like my last week or so there..

In ATL.. where I worked..

We had 3 in our apartment.. I got my own room, because I snore like a freight train..

All of the ATP apartments are going to be very similar to one another.. Pick a site based on what kind of flying you would like to see..

If you pick Florida.. You will be flying.. in florida.. You will get up the east coast, south east (ATL, BWG) and you maaaay make it out to Dallas..

If you pick Trenton.. You will be flying.. on the East Coast.. You will make it to the southeast (ATL, BWG) and Florida..

If you pick Dallas.. You will be flying.. in texas.. You will probably get out west some.. San Angelo, Roswell, NM.. You will also get to see ATL and BWG and you will probably go to Chicago some..

Everyone also worries about the seminoles.. are they new.. are they old..

Here's the skinny.. Chances are.. your checkride will be in a 79 model.. That's just the odds.. So.. I'd fly a 79 as much as I could.. However, I only got to fly a 79 like 2 or 3 times before a checkride and I did ok..

Don't worry about pools and tennis courts and "what there is to do near the airport" because you won't get to see much of this.. Now granted, you will get some... downtime.. but there won't be tons..

Don't let them do this to you-they are supposed to get you a hotel if there is no space in the apartments. Flying all day and sleeping on a couch is lousy customer service, but nobody complains since they hope to be hired. You paid for all this, right?

Having said that I did spend a few nights on a couch flying XCs, then became quite vocal about getting a hotel room...and still got hired.
