Hey, I'm not going to be there, but I was just in the last class. All I can say is... have fun on the lesson plans! ugh...

I actually had my intitial-MEI down in FLL on the 31st.

Good luck man!

How does that work if you're a self-paced guy? I heard that you only get your initial MEI during CFI school. How do you get the other CFI ratings? As an add-on back at your base training center?

If you're self-paced... then you will need to find the time to schedule approximately 1.5-2 weeks in JAX, ATL, LAS, SAC, or wherever they are currently holding the CFI class. ATP will fly you down or you will use some of your XC time in the Seminole to get there.

You will get your CFI-SE and your CFII back at your home training base.

Thanks for the info. My home base is Trenton, how would I do my CFI-SE up there? We've only got two seminoles? Also, how does it work for the Commercial SE? Sorry to ask the questions but I've never really been told how this works. Thanks

Commercial SE/CFI is done at a 90-day location.

There's a couple of ways this can be done...

1. Someone needing to build SE Cross Country Time (Pre-Req for ACPP) may fly with his/her instructor to Trenton... Stay a few days while you do manuevers for your COM-SE/CFI-SE respectively. Once your Checkrides are done... they fly the 172 back.

2. If there are no 172 XC candidates in the system at the time then you would simply spend an extra 3 days or so in the same training location you did your initial CFI training and simply finish it up there. That's why I mentioned 1.5-2 weeks earlier.

You should be able to verify with Dispatch prior to leaving for CFI school which route will be taken.

As far as how it works for the Com-SE... that's pretty easy. You simply practice the SE manuevers to commercial PTS standards freshen up your Commercial and 172 systems knowledge and take the Checkride. Then you practice pretty much the same manuevers only from the right seat and be ready to teach them to the DE for your CFI-SE Checkride. These are Add-On Ratings... Pretty easy and fun... not full blown orals, although sometimes they can be... but more actual "flying the plane" and making it do what you want it to. Frankly some of the most fun of the program... no flight plans, no XC planning, just showing your Skilzzz on a VFR day...

Good Luck,

Bob

Thanks Bob! I'm hoping to get Jax for the CFI class. I'm actually dreading it after hearing stories from guys that have gone through it, but I'm looking forward to finishing up. I can honestly say that there hasn't been a second that I have questioned my decision to attend ATP. Just can't wait to finish up.

not always. If there is a guy needing to burn off single engine time in manassas dispatch may have them fly to TTN so the plane will be available for training and a checkride up there. I know we were going to do it at one point but iirc the ttn guys flew a seminole down to hef and took the cessna back up to ttn for a couple days.

Well, for those of you who care(d) at all. I'm drivin up to JAX tomorrow and startin CFI school....I think Im in for a rough ride, but I'll post the results in a couple weeks. I could barely handle hr and half classes in college, this is not going to be fun.

-See ya after boot camp
