I'm going to be attending the CFI Program in Vegas beginning February 6th. Is there anyone else attending at this time? I have a few other questions as well. I have about 45 hours (of those only about 12 PIC so how important is it to get to 15 BEFORE I get down there?) in a 2004 Seminole but I haven't flown much recently in it (but I don't get rusty) and I also have about 60 hours of CFI ground (which was done fall of '05). I have been flying and practicing the CFI-single engine maneuvers and feel comfortable with most of them. They have been in Arrow-3s but the first 200 hours of my training were in 172s (although I haven't been in one in a while). I've been working hard on the packet. I believe I can do it but I'm also very nervous and have been losing much sleep. I hate being under pressure, but I work very well under it. I am planning on getting in the FRASCA that my flight school has and just doing approach after approach into KLAS (not to mention a few holds). I am staying at a Marriot Courtyard just 5 minutes away from KVGT so I won't be distracted in anyway. I was just wondering how hard it really is? and if anyone has any pointers or tips or just general thoughts about going to ATP then please feel free to share them. It would be greatly appreciated! Hey - keep us posted on what the experience is like - I'm thinking of doing the same program in Atlanta sometime soon. Used to live in Vegas - have fun flying around there...stay away from the hookers!!! lol |

I went to CFI school in Vegas last year, but I was an ACPP student which doesn't make any difference. I think Frank puts together a pretty good program, and I had an awesome flight instructor who was committed and willing to stay late into the night sometimes helping me prepare for my checkrides. He is still an instructor there. All of the instructors at the LAS location are pretty cool and know their stuff. Make sure you go through the CFI booklet they gave you, and know the Seminole supplement. I usually stayed at the ATP office well into the night sometimes, doing homework, studying and sitting in the Seminole dry-flying and talking through the maneuvers. I would definitely recommend that! i did the cfi program there at the atp kvgt location about a year ago. frank will be doing the ground school. he is probably one of the best ground school teachers i have ever worked with. doing spin training with him was a different story. and he will probably wear the same blue track suite, ever single day.... youll see what im talking about... haha.. i loveeed my experience flying there in las vegas. i was able to talk to the previous class before doing my cfi training a few days ahead, and they told me it was going to be intense, and there was going to be times that you were going to think 'there is NO WAY i can do this', but you will. i did get to that point once or twice, but i stuck it through and passed everything on the first try. the two examiners they use are great guys too, especially andy. dont kill yourself flying the twin 5 hours a day like some people, you will overwork yourself. study, but remember to have fun, gotta stay relaxed. anything else you want to know, let me know. |
