Smile CFI Program

Howdy howdy,

I'm signing up for the Jan 9 class in Atlanta. Can anyone tell me what the class is like, how intense it is, what the examiners are like, and the best places to stay? And also, any suggestions for prep before I go down there?

Thanks!!

You do groundschool for the first 3 days and after that you study on your own while the instructor flies with all you guys. Come 95% ready to pass the oral and you'll do fine. There's gouge on whatever examiner you get.

ATP will probably AirTran you to Florida for your initial CFI checkride so be prepared for that. At least that's what they did to the instructor program dude who was there when I was in CFI class. Also, call the 800 number for hotel suggestions. You DO NOT want to stay anywhere in the neighborhood surrounding FTY. The apartments ATP has there in Atlanta are ok, it wouldn't kill you to stay there if that's an option.

You will spend three hard core days in the classroom. You must complete that pain-in-the-rear workbook they sent you. If you are unfamiliar with the Seminole I cannot stress how important it is for you to have that Piper Seminole Training Supplement memorized. The configurations for all the manuevers, everything. Look through the PTS for the stuff that somes up on the oral. Also, checkrides in Florida cost 400-450 for the CFI initial. Think positive, but remember to bring extra money for a re-check. It's the CFI initial, the nationwide first time pass rate isn't favorable.

Overall, would you say that ATP is a good path to obtaining your CFI, II, MEI? I want to get it done ASAP and want to know how reputable they are with other FBOs, like if I were to get my CFI there and apply for employment at an FBO where I live. What is the training like? Is there anything I can do to prepare for the class now if I decided to go there in the next month?
