Default Guarenteed Interviews?

I respect JC's advertisers and I really respect ATP...but why are they too now offering Guarenteed interviews at 500 hours with PSA, ExpressJet, & American Eagle?

It's not good that even a quality company like ATP has to go to this tactic because other schools have been doing this. I don't blame ATP but I do blame:

DCA, RAA, etc, etc, etc...

Cheers.

I only know that ExpressJet & PSA are offering guaranteed interviews. Don't think Eagle does.

Here is ExpressJet:

Here is PSA:

[/ QUOTE ]Hi there Smitty...

First off... Congrats on the new job! That's awesome!

Secondly... regarding the above post:

We are at a point in the industry (on the regional scale) where there is a massive hiring push. These agreements are not one sided... in other words they are not there simply because ATP deems it their perogative as a flight school to offer this benefit.

The Organization that the LOA's are with is also interested in getting a quality person to the interview that they think would be a good addition to their company. Many companies do this to find a good pool of applicants that have had some semblance of a training program that they feel would match their own program.

If you ran one of these companies (airlines)... wouldn't you want a nice pipeline of interviewees that all had roughly the same type of training and would be a good fit in your organization... or would you rather just keep relying on calling in people at random from the top of the resume pile?? It's business...

If you ran a flight school and could offer this as a benefit to your students that another school couldn't... would you not offer it? Would it drive more business your way... most likely, yes. It's business.

Both companies (flight school & airline) are smart to create this type of situation. After all... No one looses... A guaranteed interview does not mean a guaranteed job. ATP only states there is a guaranteed interview because the airline has stated that they will interview... Not because they think that all their students are the ##### and will get a job there. They are just stating the facts. It's business.

This does not make ATP (or any other flight school for that matter) a bad company, scum of the earth, or even a PFJ'er... It's makes them a smart business within an industry of the unknown that at least has the impression of having a good repution; the ability to turn out a good student who the airlines might be interested in; and the ability to create good alliances.

Will these LOA's last? Most likely not... as hiring cuts back so too will LOA's. Will there be another LOA with another airline... most likely yes... After all... it's business.

My Two Cents...

Bob

Yeah, but where do you draw the line? Is ATP out there with full page ad's in flight training mag saying "be an airline jet pilot at 500 hours, we guarantee you an interview with Continental Express".

If not, why not? Sounds like good business to me.

The PSA one cracks me up. 1500/400, we'll guarantee you an interview. Right...

I agree completely. And you bring up good points. By the way, I don't have a job yet.

About the letters....heres what I find when I visit their site:

Oh well, I still think ATP is a good company.

[/ QUOTE ] Well... to my knowledge they are not advertising that way.

Some of the things that I see when I look at the letters:

"American Eagle recognizes the quality of training ATP provides and the airline ready pilots that complete the Regional Jet Program offered by ATP."

"ExpressJet Airlines, Inc. recognizes the overall experience and training that pilots are able to receive through the ATP Regional Jet Standards course... ExpressJet Airlines, Inc. offers it's support by guaranteeing a job interview for all who succussfully complete the program and the Company's criteria."

"PSA Airlines understands the quality of training provided by ATP's regional Jet Standards and Certification Training Program. As such PSA Airlines agrees to guarantee interviews to pilots recommended by ATP who have the following minimum prerequisites."

"ATP may publicize this agreement (provided any such publication does not imply that students will by hired by American Eagle, is not otherwise deceptive or misleading and conforms to local, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations)..."

Based on that info... It seems to me that it is the Airlines that are offereing the guaranteed interview (not ATP), and that they are allowing ATP to publicize it as long as they don't get too funky with the advertising as you indicated above DE. It looks like that PSA has updated the letter to indicate 600 and 100.

Smitty... I apologize... I got you mixed up with Seggy! I am so sorry. How are things going on your end?

I clicked on the Ari-Ben banner at the top of the page the other day. They have affliations with regionals as well...Not sure if they have LOA's however. If not it's prolly just a short time until they do I bet!

The catch is that you have to go through ATP's CRJ-systems program and pass sucessfully.
