You don't need to take any before you show up, but it is a great idea to be ready to take them the day you start. The instrument/CFII [same test taken twice but the CFII has 50 questions cs. 60), commercial, flight instructor, and fundamentals of instruction are the writtens.

Do you need sign off's to take any of these tests or can you go ahead and get the books and study for them and then just sign up?

You need to be signed off to do most of these tests. If you live anywhere near an ATP site you can get the sign-offs there, if you don't we can still help you, after you're signed up for the course. Call the 1-800 for more info about this. Cheers, Helge

Wahey! Don't forget to bank into the good engine [raise the dead] to establish the zero-sideslip condition. You want Vmc to be as low as possible, right?

Ours were always: 1) Mixture 2) Props 3) Throttle 4) Gear 5) Flaps 6) Pumps 7) Fuel (Control Panel) While doing that, you added rudder corrections (happens when you first realize there's a problem with an engine, obviously), established the zero side slip condition by rolling in ~5 degrees of bank, and pitched for Vyse. Afterwards you identified and shut down the bad engine.
