The 5 year contract is not a big deal. A year or two ago the language in the contracts was revised so that it is automatically renewed and you can only be let go "for cause". I have not heard of anyone not having their contract renewed.

I'd give up my left ball for an opportunity there. Very well run company with employees who actually give a "shirt!" Southwest is number one on my list but I have nothing to offer them. Anyone who rides the MCO employee shuttle knows the only people smiling on the back of the bus are jetBlue and Southwest employees. I actually had an American Captain who commutes from MIA tell me this job sucks!

Well, you were correct! The position was posted just a little while ago.

Thank you for that information, I'd wondered about that "5-year contract" thing myself. We appreciate your sharing, don't be a stranger!

How many pilots actually live where they are based? A guy three houses down from me is a captain at Jet Blue and is based out of JFK but he lives in good old vermilion Ohio.

OAK would surprise me, not much of a 190 operation there at all. LGB seems to be the 190 hub on the West Coast, that seems more likely.

Umm... unless something changed there are no 190s on the West Coast.

Oakland is shrinking and SFO is growing, but from the people I talked to recently they don't think either one will become an actual base any time soon.

They do a couple of routes in the E190 out here...

LGB-SFO (3x E190)
LGB-PDX (1x E190)
LGB-SEA (1x E190/1x A320)
LGB-LAS (1x E190/2x A320)
LGB-SJC (3x E190)
LGB-SMF (1x E190/1xA320)

Others I know of are AUS-SFO (E190), AUS-LGB (E190)

Moving back to MCO is the reason those are my top two right now. Delta and AirTran are next on the list. Something's gotta give at the Tranny. I'm still holding out hope they open an MCO base. I mean, their headquarters is there, too!

Learn something new every day. How do they get them out there from the east coast? Or is it a dedicated fleet?

Actually, it was my wife who was correct. She's the person on top of this. But she doesn't post here anymore since she was trashed by the bashers. But she wanted this posted since you were keen on applying.

I don't post much either, because it seems like no one wants to hear from old timers with 20,000 + hours. I'm just a Bus driver...

Well, thank you very much to you and your wife! I submitted the application after updating it, so we'll see what happens.

Don't know who your wife was on here (maybe she was before my time), but I'm sorry she was bashed. Also, with all due respect, I think you're wrong about people not wanting to hear from incredibly experienced guys like you. If anything, we need more of you!

Thanks--I never got the impression that anyone wanted to hear my stories. When I first posted someone posted a thread doubting my creds. It was very insulting. Yeah, I know--get a thick skin, etc--but really I don't have time for BS. So, I've limited my postings to must do's--as in my wife says I have to post that FA slots are opening for application! Good luck to you.

Hey we all appreciate your experiences. I personally would love to hear your stories. I think people might doubt your creds because they might be pretty rare, and pretty impressive... Don't take it personally; there are people around who love to pretend to have your experiences.

I remember MikeD pressing my claims & "credentials" when I first showed up talking about something to do with F/A training. I was grilled pretty good. He was just making sure I wasn't a "Tomcatter".

Being pressed for my claims & "credentials"--I could stand up to that. But I was bashed without any knowledge of who I was. It's ok. I moved on.

As I said, I just post when I want to or when my wife wants me to help someone (as she just did).

Peace out.

Nah, you should continue to contribute. I think you should contribute more.

Back when I was 20-21 years old, I thought I knew everything. Ha! I sure didn't. Luckily though, I had some AMAZING mentors who guided me and have helped me through my career to where I am today. I know I wouldn't be the pilot I am today without them.

If some 18 year old doesn't believe you, eh, it's the internet. We REALLY could use your input and experiences here. The problem is we've had many impostors try to present themselves as someone they are not, so when someone with legitimate credentials shows up, we are all a bit skeptical.

AGREE TOTALLY! We need all the old timers around here with their 20,000 plus hours ! Nothing wrong with a bus driver who has some good stories and most of all EXPERIENCE and has been around the block. Its actually comfortinig to hear those stories of those who have been around a while. And those who cannot appreciate it, are the same ones who will find it hard to survive in this industry....

One piece of advice if I may.

Never, ever, take a job because of a base you like, and the hope that ONE day you might be in that base. Think of it like taking a job for a quick upgrade.

Just a consideration.
