JO at Pinnacle is a scary thought. The train wreck possibilities of that brain trust would keep me awake at night. Foley would never get a job hear. Phil hates Mesaba and anyone associated with them. That goes double for displaced Saab CAs, I hear.

If you really mean it, have you reaaaaaally thought about the technical aspects of doing such?

Can they even stop these people from training? Wouldn't it cause a lot of scheduling issues, seniority issues etc? I'm guessing mass furloughs coming. No?

Losing the flying form UA put a big crinkle in their furlough displacement training schedule. Now that they are probably going to have to furlough more pilots, they put all displacement training on hold till crew planning could figure out the new furlough and displacement numbers.

If your training was cancelled you go back to your base and can get long call reserve (12 or 24hr callout) until they figure out what they're going to do, or at least thats what the email sounded like. If you were in the process of being downgraded then you may fly as a FO but be paid as a CA for the moment. That sort of thing.

The last time United terminated the flying with Mesa (in 1997) - it put 87 aircraft for Mesa (and WestAir) out looking for work, with United going with Skywest to take over the flying done by WestAir. Later in 1997 Mesa lost its flying for America West.

Best of luck to the unfortunate 300... plus those already on furlough.

Looks like the company will still try to do everything in seniority order. When the 1900s went down the sunset trail, everyone still left at AMW got trained up onto the Mesa/Freedom certs.

Mesa/Freedom Airlines Voluntary Furlough

Dear MAG Pilots,

As you know, United has exercised its early termination rights for 10 Dash-8’s and the timeframe to exercise its renewal rights for 26 CRJ-200 aircraft has expired. We must therefore plan to operate without this equipment and have announced a new equipment displacement to balance our staffing across the fleet.

These reductions will obviously result in additional furloughs. We presently expect to reduce staffing by approximately 300 pilots from this date forward, bringing the total active MAG pilot staffing to approximately 800 pilots.

We have been receiving numerous requests from pilots who would like to be furloughed out of reverse seniority order. We would like to make this option available.

All pilots will be eligible for the Voluntary Furlough. The Company will determine the number of Voluntary Furloughs by position, equipment and location that will be granted. Voluntary Furloughs will be offered starting immediately through April 2010.

Voluntary Furlough pilots will be recalled in accordance with the provision of the Collective Bargaining Agreement Section 17 B.
