Sorry for the guys that will lose their jobs but this is a win for passengers.

Refusing to fix APUs in the summer and having numerous cancellations during nice weather is unacceptable.

Just heard that as well. Also did the 700 option expire now as well at the end of the month? Wonder what the next step is now...

The 700 option was to replace 2 200s for 1 700, so if theres no more 200s it wouldn't apply unless a new agreement was made.

No idea. Probably bankruptcy.

It amazes me that Mesa was a 2200+ pilot airline a few short years ago, and will now be well under 1000. Great leadership, eh?

Definitely bankruptcy... at least I think so. The lease return penalty is supposed to be pretty high, which will mean the end of the ERJs for DL as well.

Haha.. it kind of seems that way. That's a big hit to lose 35+ airplanes. And I doubt it will stop at that... This may be what everyone has been hoping and wishing for all these years.

I don't see any announcement stating that UAL intends to cancel CRJ flying by Mesa.

Sure, they have to give notice if they want to continue.....Mesa can consider themselves free to operate those planes however they wish in 180 days. But I'd say at any point in the next 180 days if United wished to continue their use, Mesa would be more than happy to do so.

I'd wait till either Mesa or United gives a press release/SEC filing before saying that the flying is gone and Mesa is destined for BK.

it's not that we refused to fix them it's just that we had no parts.

Sorry you guys are losing the turboprops.
Good seeing you the other day. So I went to gate E83 to board my flight to SNA and I get a call. Can you do a round trip to ORD? Just as I was about to say no, they said it was for jr man pay and when I did the math, 10 hours of pay for one day, and they gave me a DH home to SNA when I got back. Not too bad, I enjoyed flying the 900 too.

I guess someone probably had a little too much to drink holloween night.

I remember that CRJ's engine being blown off and that they landed safely but does anyone know the cause since a lot of us fly the same plane?

Another thought regarding Mesa CRJ contract....why would UAL extend a contract when they now believe they can get more favorable terms? United could renegotiate a more favorable contract given the current environment.

I agree things don't look great for Mesa...I just won't go saying the nail is in the coffin till the hammer is swinging.

Mesa will have 96 aircraft in operation with 63 spares beginning in April. Looks like the life line will go flat soon. Good luck to all the employees. I strongly believe any airline that takes over Mesa flying and proceeds to hire because of it, will give Mesa employees preferential interviews.

Score one for you. I love it when they're so desperate that you can start making demands.

It had to do with GE's marking of fan blades. From the NTSB:

Quote:
Portions of the fan disk were recovered and examination of the fan disk revealed fatigue striations emanating from the aft bore corner of the fan disk. The striations came from an area that exhibited characteristics consistent with arc-out damage, which was the result of improper assembly and marking procedures during the electrochemical etching process. This damage was not detected during the manufacturer's quality assurance process used by the manufacturer. Further, the operator did not detect this damage while conducting the inspections prescribed through required airworthiness directives because the inspection procedures required were not detailed enough to detect the arc-out damage and the maintenance personnel did not receive appropriate training. Following the incident, the manufacturer issued alert service bulletins and the FAA issued an airworthiness directive to resolve these issues.
Quote:
...based on reviewing all available assembly and inspection records for CF34 fan disk, it was determined that fan disks marked by one specific operator/assembler had a higher susceptibility of arc-out damage in the fan disk bore, like that found on the incident fan disk
It kind of sounds like one person at GE screwed up. Mesa's inspection program (this problem first came up in 2000 and inspections were mandated) was found to be a contributing factor as well.
