Thumbs up Colgan Contract Negotiations to start

CJC Contract Negotiations Scheduled to Begin September 23

Our first bargaining session with management will be September 23-25. This is the first of what will become monthly sessions for our Negotiating Committee to sit down with management and negotiate our first contract.

The Negotiating Committee―Captain Barry Nomann (IAH), Captain Richard Jurkiewicz (EWR), and First Officer Nathan Hillard (EWR)―have the MEC’s FULL support. If you see them in the crewroom, on the crew bus, or are swapping airplanes with them, wish them the best of luck! They have spent the past few months training and preparing to bargain for the benefit of all Colgan pilots. Your participation in the web survey earlier this summer was invaluable to their work. They have the pulse of the pilot group and will make those concerns known to management at the table. Our Negotiating Committee speaks for us!

I guess now it can be said of any airline previously thought of to be lower-end, "At least it isn't Amerijet".

For some reason this just occurred to me...

No wonder management is sooooo eager to get the 9E contract done...

Guess they can't multitask and negotiate two contracts at once!

Good luck guys! I met Barry at NJC last year and know Richard and Nathan. I'm sure they'll do a great job!

I bet someone a beer that Colgan gets a contract before Pinnacle.

Actually that's probably not true. Cause somehow this TA will pass even though after it there will be a lot of people who claimed to vote no but really didn't.

That's my sad feeling as well. If it is true, here's hoping Colgan can get a better deal than we do. For those invovled, two words: reserve rules.

If they do, then there will be a lot of pilots at Pinnacle that will be pissed.

If the TA passes, we're gonna have that anyway.

Hold the line.

Don't take their crap.

Make sure anything they promise is in writing.

Way to go, Colgan pilots!

I am not an airline pilot, but meeting once a month?! Why just once a month? How is the schedule agreed upon?

Negotiators are also line pilots, and the negotiators for the company are management types. So, there's still an airline to run and operate. Plus, there's only so much that can accomplished in a few sessions. The management types and the negotiators have to go over proposals, talk with department heads or go over polling data from the pilots to determine what's needed, what's acceptable and what isn't. If you're coming down to an end game scenario with only a few sections left open, then a lot of meetings more often might be more beneficial. In the early stages, when you've got about 30+ sections of the contract open, it's gonna take a while for both sides to go through proposals and counter proposals. We went MONTHS at a stretch over at Pinnacle with no negotiating sessions scheduled for one reason or another.

Anyone that's thinking Colgan's contract is gonna be done quickly is in for disappointment. It's gonna take a lot of patience and work from the pilots and negotiators.
