Default CAL Q Numbers

How many Qs was CJ supposed to fly for Continental?

I was just reading their 8K statement and it says 15 going out through 2010 and I'd thought they were supposed to get a bunch more then that.

I, too, was surprised to see the number still at 15 for 2010. Of course maybe CAL still will exercise options for more and go against the forecast.

The next wave of Q's aren't set in stone for CAL, they can go to anyone at this point. All that matters is that Colgan/Pinnacle Holdings has them guaranteed off the assembly line if they excercise the options with the first batch coming off the line Jan 2009. They keep setting back the first wave's option date, dont know why. Supposed to know by the end of this month, but who knows. The fact that they aren't mentioned in that statement doesn't really persuade me either way. I've heard United out of Denver, CAL out of Houston, and Delta out of Los Angeles. As with everything, rumours are rumours and facts only happen when official announcements come. I think most people I flew with think they are going to Houston in 2009. I would think that with the way gas prices are, there should be a lot of interest in them. 74 people at 2400 to 2800 pph and 360kts aint a bad deal.

We got a line check the other day and were told that management was in ATL talk to Delta about the Q.

If we get the Q's we get them, if we don't-we don't. Out of our hands.

Hopefully you do because apparently there is talk about Saab reductions in the future and if the fleet is reduced but none are added, that means a loss of jobs. I would hate to see that.

This company WILL furlough out of seniority, too.

So SAAB FO's- we can't get comfortable.

Especially those of us that start class tomorrow And if the age of the group I interviewed with last week is anything like the group of people in class tomorrow, I will be the most Jr Saab FO with Colgan until July 23rd.

Honestly- we are direly short of SAAB CA's and FO's.

I'm 6 on, 1 off, 6 on, 1 off for the rest of the month.

I don't see why they would run a SAAB class with the hopes of grounding some of them. This is why I think we will get more Q's.

Furloughing should absolutely be done based upon company wide seniority. Why should a junior Q400 FO get to keep their job while a more senior Saab FO loses theirs? I'm hoping for your sake things don't to come to this.

Because if the Saab goes away, it would require furloughing a Q400 FO and retraining a Saab FO for the Q400. Sounds like in makes financial sense to just furlough the Saab FO. Of course it could back-fire causing even worse pilot-management relations and almost guarantee a unionized pilot group. But maybe management already sees the writing on the wall with respect to the union and don't care at this point. Either way Colgan/PNCL management will do what they want, they hold the cards and for a junior Saab FO it's a precarious position.

Yea, I think there is a little more to it than the document shows. However a friend of mine interviewed yesterday with Cathy and Bill H. They said that they have no Q classes lined up past this one coming up in a few weeks, which only has 3 people. The only classes they have planned is the July 23rd Saab class.

As USMC-SGT said on another forum regarding this same document... There arent any Colgan Saabs, Gulfstream Beechs or 402s listed on this document either.

Union? I know we all have discussed this already..... But until there's one the company can do and will do as they wish!

If that is an issue for some people, they can talk to those that didn't feel the need for a union last year.

Here's hoping Colgan has a union by the end of the summer.

Tis true! What a perfect time to trim some cost and get some fat off the company without having a worry in the world.....

Agreed. To my understanding we don't even vote on what union (teamsters vs. ALPA) until Aug. 31st, then its 60 or 90 days until we vote, then god knows how long a contract would take.

I'm a junior Q FO (hired Dec) and the last thing I would want is a Saab FO that is more senior to me to get furloughed while I keep my job. Thats complete B.S. However, I think we excercise all of our Q options so I think furloughs are way out of the question.

Yeah, but you're building all that multi turbine time right?

The more time I get the better I'll look should I get furloughed.

Now do some of you see why it's smart to get your CFI tickets?

Yeah wonder about those CMEL wonders.... may they get through the tough times when they are let go by many carriers. Without the CFI's they are in a tough spot.

I think many flight schools are still short on instructors so being a CFI right now isn't a bad deal.
