Default American Eagle moving into PDX?

It appears that AE has won a ground handling contract at PDX and is actively looking for station managers and ramp agents. No plans yet to have flights into PDX but this could very will be the first step into the Northwest market. With Horizon going to an exclusive Q400 fleet there will be a vacuum in the <50 seat market in the next year or two.

We also just replaced the Saab's on the Monterey trips(summer season for now only) with the ERJ. And according to one of our FA's I talked to the ERJ has replaced the Saab on the Fresno trips. So it looks like there is expansion of some type, not necessarily in a bunch of new cities we serve but an increase of seats(for now). An increase in westcoast flying would be a good thing for everyone here.

Could also just be Eagle's management getting income wherever they can. Air Whisky does a lot of NWA ground handling, but they don't operate any flights.

Margin for ground handling stuff is pretty good. >15%

Flying the planes has been ~1%.

Eagle is trying to step it up the ground ops big time.

Ground ops have nothing to do with flight ops. Air Whiskey still handles UAX. AE also won a bunch of Express Jet station in the SE I think. Piedmont handles USX station that they don't fly to. Alaska doesn't even handle their own planes in their biggest station (SEA).
