Default Colgan PC

Hey Guys! Got my PC on Sunday with Bob Campbell, just wondering if you all could let me know how it went for u? What was the oral like? My instructor said that for FOs, limitations are what is consentrated on the most for the Oral, is that pretty acurate? what kinda questions are asked besides limitations? Also I have noticed that the last week of sim is counting down, and still no word of bases or ioe locations? Just hoping they let us know so we can plan ahead alittle. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thanks

I'm guessing that this is the New hire PC, not reccurent, and it's the SF340?

New hire, you get a smattering of questions from each chapter... Company structure etc. Prob. name 3-4 duty's and responcibilities of an FO/CA, Fo duty's. Some weather, derrived minima.. 3585 etc. Systems, know the typical. General engine, fuel, powerplant and electrical systems. Just know them all pretty well. Be able to answer questinos like.. what happens if the Gear does not retract on take off? (take off warning inhibitor doesn't turn off, so you don't get warnings etc.)

A lot of times, they will go over all the yellow/red lights. what sets it off, what does it mean, and memory items if applicable.

winter ops, hold over charts... how do you read them.

Bob Campbell is a great guy and certainly isn't going to be trying to bust you. For the oral, I'd concentrate on the thing TnT mentioned. Know what each light on the overhead panel means when it lights up and basic number associated with the lights. BASIC numbers....don't get carried away....he's not going to care!

Definitely know limitations!

not so smart to put PC gouge online especially in a small company like colgan. I'd keep it to pm's next time. Expect bob to change up his routine now.

Meh, it's common knowledge.....gouge or not, the initial PC isn't about tricking the trainee. It's about being certain you have the basic fundamentals down. I'm not divulging secrets here. For as long as I've been here (and from those who've gone before me) the initial PC is, and has been, about the basics.

As it would be known, im on the 1900 - so I have never done any training events with Bob. What i said above, i would tell anybody walking out of the training center asking. I just gave a run through of the stuff i would study up on for a check ride.

Every ride will be diffrent, but if yuo pull out the PTS for a Type ride, and look at the required items on your initial check sheet in your training folder... it pretty much outlines what will be covered.

Pre-hiring frenzy, people spent enough time teaching, that they began to figure out what makes good test material and what doesn't. Heck, i practicaly knew what questions were going to be asked of me when i went up for mine. These days, when people have only done 2-300 hours of instruction, they don't seem to have that "sense" so either they've only learned to study like they were taught... or they blanket everything and go crazy.

Not fault accelerated programs, but all the info is spoon fed to you, you don't have to pull anything out of a book yourself, so you learn how to study for "their" checkrides.

If you paid attention in ground school, and at least wrote down the highighted topics from each chapter of the FOPPM, and systems, you will be fine. Focus items were such for a reason. I would also expect, with the new book out, there will be a "small" level of uncertainy about it. Normaly in those times questions seem to stick to material covered in groundschool. Although, it's been out for a while, so i doubt that is an issue.

I also tried to give examples as to thinking beyond the initial problem... and the only saab one i knew of was because a crew forgot to dissable the takeoff warning inhibit, didn't catch the hydralic failure, and went off the runway/taxi way when they tried to turn... thinking they would have steering/brakes. Had the gear gone up and cycled the switch... they would have known about the hyd. pump... but then again, i guess it's a checklist item. oh well

the rest... thats just the questions i would ask. FO duties... cause, well... have you learned what your job is? thats no tougher to figure out than required personal items... prob. get asked that... or what events require a report be made to company? common sense stuff to study. - and stuff you would get asked at nearly ANY initial pc at any company.
