| Old Skool | If I were still in Orlando, this would be me, too. Although with the house bubble almost totally burst in Florida, it would be the perfect excuse to move back.....

| Old Skool | You used to work for the marriott too? Thats the best company I have every worked for. I was with them for 5 years, they really know how to take care of their own. IF i got furloughed, a good number of my friends own their own business, and I would probably go to work for them. I also found out a friend of mine just got offered an executive position for some jet charter company in NYC. So I would definitely hit him up. ha

Excellent piece of writing Zap. Not sure what I would do. Most likely live my true dream; formulate a dual action colon cleanse and sell it on late night television to insomniacs. Or maybe sell Amway. Seriously though, probably check out some corporate gigs and then polish up my non aviation resume and try to find a so called real job.

I was there part time from December 2002 to May 2005. Awesome company to work for, great job, and met some great people there. I was a bartender, what did you do?

| Old Skool | What didn't I do? I worked, room service cashier, restaurant host, restaurant cashier, Restaurant server, service bartender, pool bartender, and I even did an internship in housekeeping.

If you get furloughed and decide to apply at another regional rather than wait for recall, does/can/will your new regional require you to give up your recall rights as a condition of employment?

I can't speak for other regionals but Colgan doesn't require it. I flew with a furloughed Comair FO who was waiting to get the call to go back to Comair. Ultimately, he decided to stay at Colgan when the call did come.

| AFAIK AWAC requires you resign your number.

But I agree, I doubt any of those resignations are worth the paper they are written on when it comes to the previous employer. AWAC and the union has been extremely ANTI-J4J, they want to hire people that WANT to be at the company vs. just going there "for a job".

Now my life has meaning. I have passed on the benefits of my experience to an anonymous aviator on a website. Kind of like Richard Dreyfus in Always (but not really). Now if I can only have the same good fortune with my son as he grows.

I think if I got furloughed, I'd probably leech off of the wife and work on a new and improved mousetrap. I mean I like aviation, have a strong affinity for my job but I'd take the furlough as opportunity to bring back the old entrepreneurial/creative Doug Taylor I used to be back in the day. I know that's easy to say when I've been very fortunate in my career.

Yeah, you have! I don't know your background and wouldn't presume to ask about your educational background. But I know that each time that I was furloughed and sought non-aviation related employment (even if only for a short period of time) I was amazed at just how unqualified I was to do ... well, anything!I thought, "Hey, i'm college educated. I can be taught. I have been put in charge of a multi-million dollar airplane and a team of professionals, so i'm responsible and can manage people. Surely someone will take advantage of all I have to offer." I'd go to a job interview and it would go something like this. Interviewer: "So what did you do before you were laid off?" Me: "I flew airplanes." Interviewer: "I see. So what kind of job do you envision yourself doing for Spacely Sprockets?" Me: "Um.. Do you have any airplanes?" Nope. Not so much. Pilots -- especially those of us who had the utter lack of foresight to get an "aviation management" degree -- are not qualified to do anything but fly. I only wish I had learned that lesson 20 years ago. I'm pursuing other educational opportunities now, but it is important that pilots realize that making the kind of money we make in NON-flying jobs is generally a lot harder and a lot less fun.

Uncle Phil said PNCL Corp will review Colgan's Pro-Rate Agreements (SAAB flying) next quarter and make cuts or eliminations to make Colgan profitable. Scary stuff. Here is my question. If they eliminate SAAB flying, will Q400 FO's stay and SAAB FO's be furloughed? For Instance - I'm #325 at Colgan. Let's say ComputerGuy is #425. Since I'm on the SAAB and he is on the Q400, will I be furloughed before him? ALPA 2008.

I mean that if you are a furloughee from another airline, Colgan does not require you to give up your status to take a job at Colgan.
